Readme BMW 320i Gr2

The BMW 3 Series is an entry-level luxury car manufactured by the German automaker BMW since May 1975. It is the successor to the 02 Series and has been produced in six different generations. The first generation of 3 Series was only available as a 2-door sedan, however the model range has since expanded to include a 4-door sedan, 2-door convertible, 2-door coupe, 5-door station wagon and 5-door hatchback body styles. In 2013, the coupe and convertible models started to be badged as 4 Series, therefore the 3 Series range no longer includes these body styles. The 3 Series is BMW's best-selling model, accounting for around 30% of the BMW brand's annual total sales (excluding motorbikes). The BMW 3 Series has won numerous awards throughout its history.
When the BMW 320 made its race track debut in 1977, it did so in the same striped livery of BMW Motorsport GmbH. As Group 5 racing tourers, the BMW 320 models also cut a dash with their heavily flared wheel arches and large front spoiler and rear wings. Underneath the bonnet nestled a thoroughbred BMW Formula 2 racing engine, a 2-litre in-line four-cylinder unit that packed 300 bhp. Needless to say, such power could only be translated to the road with the help of a racing chassis and all-round aerodynamic assistance.
A total of 28 Group 5 BMW 320i units were built in 1977/78. BMW Motorsport GmbH delivered the touring cars as sport kits to racing teams around the world. In 1978, BMW cleared the track in the German Motor Racing Championship for the tuners and private teams. Schnitzer, Alpina-Faltz, HAT and GS Tuning developed a 1.4 turbo engine to use in DRM championship while BMW Motorsport GmbH fielded a touring car against the flat sports racers in the World Championship for Makes using the 2.0 litre engine with a turbo.

The mod is linked to GTC-TC-76 class and the Porsche 914.

BMW E21 320i Group-2 1976-81 for GTL Physics notes

Big changes were made to the European touring car rules in 1976 no doubt in an effort to reduce the cost and complexity of the cars (except for Group-5)
For group-2 racing parts could no longer be homologated at 100 copies but instead 1000 were needed.
Bodywork changes were restricted to only simple wheel arches, no more aero box flairs.
Engine size was more tightly restricted to match the production version.
These changes had the effect of removing the big racing only modified engines like had been seen in the pre76 CSL and 3100 Capri.
Within Group-2 there would be 5 divisions based on engine size
Div-1 up to 1300cc
Div-2 up to 1600cc
Div-3 up to 1600 - 2000cc
Div-4 up to 2000 - 3000cc
Div-5 up to 3000cc and over
We have already released a few cars from the era including the Div-3 escort and the Div-5 BMW CSL.
The BMW E21 Gr-2 car here is a Div-3 car and direct competition to the Escort.

Driving style is what a friend of mine calls “full attack” that is the harder you drive it the faster it goes. This is not true of all cars, bigger heavy cars often do not respond to this sort of driving but the relatively light BMW does.
It’s a bit better balanced than the escort and a bit less exciting when not driven to the edge. All of the these late GR-2 cars are a little low on power compared to the pre 76 cars so they are relatively easy to jump into and drive but to go really fast you need to be right up on the harry edge. I am fastest when I carry the tail out on corner entry and carry as much mid corner speed as I can.
The baseline set up might be a little soft on the shock settings but I was enjoying it so I left it. if it feels a little soft to you stiffer shock settings might be a place to start.

BMW E21 320i GTU 1979-81 for GTL Physics notes

There was as far as I can tell only one E21 BMW 320i ever raced in GTU.
Dave white Owned and raced the car I believe it was built by a shop that had raced a 320i in a different sedan class but I don’t have the name of the shop.
I did manage to talk to someone who remembered the car and had some information about it but many things about the mod are an educated guess.
There are 3 paint jobs included here that are the 3 ways the car ever ran but there was only ever one car, just painted different each year.
Unlike Gr-2 in Europe in IMSA the rules for touring cars were not “watered down” in 1976 so GTU cars are lighter with bigger tires and bodywork and fewer engine restrictions.
Also unlike Europe there were only 2 touring classes GTU up to 2500cc and GTO over 2500cc (GTX was for Group-5 cars).
Also GTU classified group-2 sedans and group-4 sports cars all as GTU cars.
So the little 2000cc 320i had to race with 2500cc sports cars like the Porsche 911s and Datsun 240-280Z etc. etc.

It shows up for its first event at Road Atlanta in 1979 and qualifies a respectable 9th place however does not finish.
8th place qualifying at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks later with another DNF then two top 5 finishes in a row with 3 place at Hallett and 5th at Lime rock.
The rest of the season is more of the same, with decent qualifying efforts followed by not finishing the race.
Though as I mentioned above not much information is available about this car it seems clear it was a somewhat competitive GTU car right out of the box.

After the 1979 season it’s only raced a few times with its best non 1979 finish being 4th at Road Atlanta in 1981
At only 2liters it was at a power disadvantage to the other mostly 2.5 liter GTU cars its strength was certainly handling and drivability which was a BMW Hallmark in these days.

Physics for the GTU car reflect this idea, not as much power as the faster GTU cars it can still hold its own well.
Based on its records I wanted it to be competitive with the other GTU cars.
Its strength is its mid corner speed and drift able personally like the GR-2 car the harder you drive it the faster it goes, however it has more over all grip and you can over use the tires by sliding it everywhere so some self control is needed .

Aber erstmal Danke für die zwei neuen ... sie fahren sich gut ... zumindest für BMWs ... und den "normalen" 320 erkennt man darin auch nicht wieder (der ist viel zickiger).
Dafür, dass BMW einfach nicht meins ist, kann ausser mir (und BMW) ja keiner was.

Mein Problem ist (wie so oft bei GTL) der Sound ... dass ich den BMW-Sound bei GTL allgemein nicht mag - geschenkt.

Aber das Balancing sollte meiner Meinung nach schon so sein, dass man nicht das Gefühl bekommt, der Motor wäre auf dem Beifahrersitz montiert (mitsamt der Auspuffanlage).
Diesmal habe ich den Sound zur Überprüfung sogar nur über Kopfhörer laufen lassen und alle GTL-unabhängigen Balancingeinstellungen auf neutral stehen ... und hatte dieses fiese geräusch dennoch fast nur auf dem rechten Ohr (Blick nach vorn) bzw. auf dem linken (Blick nach hinten).

Irgendwann scheint sich da mal ein Bug im Bezug auf das Sound-Balancing eingeschlichen zu haben, der seitdem in vielen Mods lebt und gedeiht.
Schade ist nur, dass man es nicht einfach ausbügeln kann (ist eigentlich ziemlich easy zu beheben), da der lowGuard dann meckert (alles rot).

Dieses Balancing-Ding ist für viele wohl nicht weiter tragisch, aber ich bekomme davon relativ schnell Kopfschmerzen
Und Autos mit diesem "Fehler" fahre ich dann doch eher selten ... nicht weiter schlimm, aber etwas schade.

du könntest mir die entsprechenden Korrekturwerte auch per PM zusenden, wenn du magst.
Hab im Moment ein wenig zu wenig Zeit um das selbst raus zu fickeln.
Dann würde ich ein Update fertig machen und der lowguard bleibt dann weiterhin grün.
Ach, könntest du mir auch noch einmal die Werte für die LMC-Porsche schicken?
Ich kann die nicht wiederfinden.

nach dem erscheinen von GTL versucht die Menschen in den Niederlanden für GTLegends zu Begeistern,bei den gro0en Ford Capris gibt es auch einen in der Holländischen Lieblingsfarbe Orange, ih erwähne das nur falls du mal einen großen Capri bei einem Renn event fahren möchtest
