suggestions for more varied races 17 Years, 10 Months ago
|
|
First of all, thanks to all admins to have this wonderful site and system up and running, it is great to race here ...
As we say in france "qui aime bien chatie bien", which means "only things you like you can critisize".
I suggest 2 improvments for server 1 that could bring new interest for all i believe.
1) the main issue i see is that most of the races are done on 911, Capri or 906, because those cars are faster. some people race other cars of course but pressure to do good times push people towards those faster cars. What i propose is to restrict the list of cars to 5, dynamically. The algorithm would be:
- select a random car
- select the 4 other cars with the nearest best laps from the great laptime database you have.
as examples using this algo we could have:
- Lakeside, Jag MK II, Abarth, Elite, Mustang, Mini
- Phillip Island, GT 350, A110, 300SL, Cortina, Mustang
- Cadwell, Cobra, Corvette 76, GT40, Elan, Daytona
Looking at those examples, we could have great races
2) This is more minor, but it would be to have the same dynamic behavior for number of laps. Always 5 laps on short or long tracks is not very fair, 5 laps on Brands Hatch Indy is too short, and some might find 5 laps on Spa too long. The idea here would be to take the fastest lap to compute a number of lap so that the race last approx. 10 minutes. So Brands Hatch indy would be 10 laps and Spa 3 laps ...
I dont know if the automated server allows you guys to do that but it would be very good to do i think.
I hope this is interesting feedback to you guys, again i find the system great, lets make it even better
Pascal.

If you want to drive other cars, just do it, propose it to others and you will always find some guys for a race on, lets say, the Lotus Elite etc..
And if some guys start something like that, the others will follow. Some days ago we had 23 (sic!) Mercedes 300 SL on the track.
But you habe to communicate (this includes, especially for you, saying "sorry", you know what im talking about).

I agree 51!N, its better to have all cars available. Good idea though Pasender. 5 laps ?, I dont mind cause the tracks are great and I pace myself (well try to).
Pasender - you might want to learn more in any car and if it is not available then...

Dear Pasender,
I do agree to your suggestions.
But isn't it a a natual behavior that everyone prefers the fastest car possible due to the fact that everyone is taking care about the clock instead of enjoying the race using a slowlier car and making the best lap possible even in a slowly car?
However, we're supporting the slowly ones also by offering "events" with the small ones also.
The feedback shows that there is a a huge request for this sessions and I personally enjoy this races too (although I'm one of the guys who hold the "red flag" at the end of the grid).
So pls. join one of the "Zwergenschubsen" (dwarf warping) events and have fun too....
cheers,
Uwe
BTW: We're planning a SL300 event next but at first we need to increase the amount of available SLs and this will happen soon ...<br><br>Beitrag geändert von: DerDumeklemmer, am: 2007/07/11 22:34

i am also disappointed that basically the only cars used on the server are
Porsche 911 - Porsche 906 - Ford Capri - Ford Escort - BMW CSL
i tried to get some other guys racing the slow cars, but there won't be more than 4 out of 20 drivers joining. i guess, it depends on who is on the server.
well, i guess i just gotta learn driving the big ones.
i'd support occasional limitation of cars to tc 65, gtc 65, gtc-tc 76. but i can imagine it's not practical for the dudes running the bude, and they shouldn't have to invest more time in the bude than they already do, because it's already awesome!
Last thing: i have the feeling that 'the rule' on the english version of this website is not proper english - but i am not english native! my suggestions:
THE rule: If you hit the car in front of you, WAIT and let it get ahead of you.
THE rule: If you crash into the car in front of you, WAIT and let it pass/overtake.<br><br>Beitrag geändert von: Milchkuh, am: 2007/07/12 23:13

Hi all,
i noticed lately that the new servers 2 3 4 and 5 address some of the comments i made, either directly or indirectly
1) car matching
Still i believe the split in TC65, GTC65 and 76 is not perfect as there is some car overlap. for example:
- Elite is GTC where it stands no chance and should be raceable against 1000 TC for example
- GT40 is GTC where it almost always win and should be better match against 914 and Escort ...
This is why i believe regrouping cars based on laptime database is best (again, this database is GREAT, anyway i could get a SQL dump ??? )
But what was done by class is already a great idea, much more easier to setup i'm sure
2) Number of Laps
Server 2 is dedicated to short tracks, this is a very good idea. If the number of lap gets increased to 10 then it is perfect as races will then take more than 2 minutes on Oran North for example. This should be easy to change i believe and provide more fun for racers ...
Anyway, again, i want mainly to say thanks to the Bude team, what a great work ...
PS: technically, i would like to undertand how a GTL server is setup automatically for the races. Is there some Doc, some API ???

Hi Pasener,
Opening your own server is easy.
Open the GTL file and double click on 'GTLDedicated'. A window with 'Initialising Dedicated Server' will appear
This will take a short time to load. Once loaded it is fairly self explanitory. At some stage you MUST insert the Online - key number which you will find on the back of the GTL manual that you get with the game.
If you have any problems let me know.

gee,
thanks for your pointers, i started my server so easily ...
does it mean that someone manually relaunch a server at bude when a special event comes ???
or is it automated with certain parameters ???
i saw that the file "dedicatedserver.ini" contains all settings of the server so that multiple track/laps/cars combinations could be stored in different files and launched when wanted thru a script. i'll try to play with the concept ...

Yup Pasender it's easy but when you launch the dedicated server it is an independent server and nothing to do with the ‘Bude’ or anyone else.
I use this method for the ‘Sloppy Sausage Club’ but I asked the guys at the ‘Bude’ if I could run it through them for the administration side. I password the server and this will be changed every so often on a Forum section that was thoughtfully provided especially for the club.
I only have original GTL cars and the ‘Bude’ cars on the GTL game but all tracks from all known sources. So when I run the server only those who use the ‘Bude’ to get downloads from can actually use the server. This means that I get what I want and the ‘Bude’ can hopefully profit by it.
If you need any more information please just ask.

I don't think we have to limit the avaible cars. Sometimes there are a lot of "newbe" drivers on the server, driving with GTC-76 cars. So I pick a slower car, like the lotus Elan and do the same laptimes, great fun!
I like it to take a completely different car than the other drivers, for example: Alfa's vs Shelby 350GT

i agree with all the posts so far
i would say remove the capri,911 and 906 from the servers, well for a limited time to enable people who always drive the capri (you know who you are lol) to drive other cars and develop setups for other cars, it's all to easy to pick your fav. FAST car that you already have good working setups for.
well thinking about it you only have to remove 1 of the 3 or 4 fastest cars from a group, but rotate the removed car, so for week 1 of the month the 906 would be missing, week 2 the 911 would be missing, etc etc
it would be no different than the missing pantera !
cheers
gogs
the EDIT: ps. i normally check the bude's, live ticker before joining a server and try to match my car with drivers.<br><br>Post edited by: dirtyvfr, at: 2007/09/21 09:37

I think dirtyvfr have a good point. I missed the Pantera, and had to find another quicky. This made my setup skills much better, and I got kind of control of the 906. Whatever car I use now, have better setups than before, thanks to the banning of the Pantera.
Another thing. Why is ranking only on server #1?

I also agree that missing a car for a while is a good thing as there are those who almost only use the same car all the time even though everyone else has matched there cars for a close race.
In the end it's the guys in administration who have to do the work and they do it for free, so we must realise that they may not be able to do this or only do this this when they have the time to. They also like to have time racing as we do.
Ta much
