---------------------------------------------
The Volvo Amazon was a mid-sized car manufactured and marketed by
Volvo Cars from 1956 to 1970.The Amazon shared the wheelbase, tall
posture and high H-point seating of its predecessor, the PV444/544,
and was offered in two-door sedan, four-door sedan, and five-door
wagon body styles. In 1959 Volvo became the world's first
manufacturer to provide front seat belts as standard equipment —
by providing them on all Amazon models and later becoming the
first car featuring three-point seat belts as standard equipment.
234,653 four-door models, 359,917 two-door models and 73,220
station wagons were produced, of which 60% were exported; for a
total of 667,791 vehicles.
The 122S was introduced in 1958 as a performance model equipped
with a dual carburetor 85 bhp (63 kW) engine. Due to its sturdy
construction and the very reliable engine/gearbox combination
it was the choice for many rally drivers of the time and until now.
Gunnar Andersson, Tom Trana, Sylvia Osterberg, Bengt Söderström
and Carl-Magnus Skogh are five of the well known rally stars of
the Volvo Factory team. But Volvo took the cars also used to
Hillclimbs and endurance races like the Maraton de la Route, the
Gran Primo International de Argentina or the 6h of Brands Hatch.
Tom Trana competed in the ETCC in a Volvo Amazon. Private teams
competed in the 24h at Bathurst in 122S. Thanks to the parts
offerd by the Motorsports department of Volvo those teams were
able to easily build their own affordable group 1 racer.
Even Jochen Neerpasch drove a Volvo Amazon early in his carrier!
The model was made by Simbin for the Race Retro Pack
for Race07. If you do not own it yet you should buy it!
The car was converted to GTL by Trackaholics.
We changed the car to a more historic look and added some
parts (please see change-log below) to give it a more GTL-ish
look and feel and also to make it fit to the other GTL cars.
The engine and gearbox used are also by Simbin, we only
added a longer gearing to make the car competetive in its class.
We are not sure what engine and gearbox where recreated, but
we are pretty sure it was not the B18/M41 combination of the
original group 1 car. Anyways, we did not change it.
