Brickyard Legends Team presents:
Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV Group2 and IMSA GTU
Group2:
The Alfetta GTV race cars were built by the Autodelta division of Alfa Romeo.
Originally used for rally racing in 1975 the Alfetta easily fit into the new rules for touring car racing established in 1976. No more one off exotic engines or gearboxes were allowed in Group2 racing after 76, indeed even dry sump oiling was banned at first but allowed again in 1977.
The Alfetta won the under 2000cc Group 2 class called Division 2 in 1976 even winning over all at Vallelunga when the leading division 4 BMWs all ran into issues.
To be fair there was not much competition for the Alfetta in 76.
Unfortunately for the Alfetta Alfa Romeos recourses were already stretched thin in Sports car racing and formula 1 so no real touring car factory support was offered after 76 and the Alfetta did not enjoy quite the same success going forward as several fast BMW 320i and escort teams arrived in the following years.
GTU:
Both IMSA GTU cars were private efforts. The story goes Car #26 was one of the Alfetta "Fire cars" this was a shipment of cars that were damaged by a fire on the ship to the USA. The damage was mostly cosmetic; however the cars could no longer be sold as new. Alfa not wanting to scrap them all sold them as non DOT cars to be converted for racing.
Car #26 ran in IMSA GTU on and off from 1979 to 1881 I believe.
It used formula atlantic brakes, a close ratio box and larger rear wheels than the Group 2 cars.
I don’t really know anything about Car #35
Physics wise we have I am sure, given them the benefit of the doubt.
The mod is linked to GTC-TC-76 class and the Porsche 914.
-Mod includs physics for both the Group2 and IMSA GTU cars.
