The Group-5 Stratos turbo was raced in the Racing.FR Group-5 / GTX league a few mounths ago
Cars in the league included the team 21 935, the CSL turbo and most of the BYL GTX cars.
There were something like 10 rounds and they had 20 to 25 cars a race.
Its biggest strength proved to be at tracks with no big straightaway, at these it could qualify in the top 5, it lacks a bit of top end over the bigger Power cars but it accelerates well for short distances.
In qualifying full revs can be used but for full race distance events the revs need to be lowered to protect the engine.
In these Racing.FR events I don’t think it ever won a race but it was competitive.
In short distance events on tracks with lots of corners it is at its best.
In the short 5 lap ABB pickup races full revs are possible so it should be good in these.
At the Racing.FR events we did increase the fuel tank size from 100L to 120L
That is a change that could also be made to the ABB version. So It can be better used in longer events.
We never updated the NoGrip version with the larger fuel tank size.
If you run Max revs 8300rpm the engine will loose a full percent of it life every time you hit redline.
So basically a percent every shift if you are really on it. Most tracks this will give you only 4 or 5 laps.
Good for Qualifying but not for a long race.
If you set redline to 8000RPM you can run a full lap at Lemans and only loose a percent of engine life per lap running the tallest Gering so in theory best case this will give you 99 laps of engine life at LeMans
However you must be clean on your downshifts if you rush your down shifts and over rev on them you will eat up engine life.
If you are really good you can set to 8300rpm and shift at 8000rpm and only use 8300rpm when you need and still manage the engine life it but this requires a high level of skill and discipline.
Concerning the real Stratos Turbo it is hard to be sure how good it was or said more correctly how good it could have been with some development.
The real car ran only a very small amount of events and only 2 with the new 935 where it looked like it had a lot of potential but lacked any reliability. Indeed one chassis caught fire and was destroyed in practice on the 2nd race weekend.
When we were building it I was encouraged by the Racing.FR guys to make it about as fast as the Team-21 935 which is also a 1976 spec car. This is I am sure a bit optimistic for it and left on my own I might have made it a bit slower. But it makes it a good online race car.
Because of this and to closer resemble the real car I built in the engine reliability issues I mention above.
So MichaW is correct, the idea was to have it close in performance to the 1976 935 but suffering some disadvantages that make it a challenge to win with
