Where I Live 17 Years, 7 Months ago
I live in England in a town called South Shields. It is on the North East coast and is near the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The people born on the banks of the Tyne are called Geordies and we speak with a Geordie dialect. The folk of South Shields are also known as ‘Sand Dancers’.

Claims to fame.
Frank Williams of the Williams F1 Team was born here.
We had the first Lifeboat designed by local man William Wouldhave.
Souter Lighthouse was the first electrically powered lighthouse in the world.
The world famous first ever half marathon fun run'The Great North Run' starts in Newcastle and ends in South Shields (right outside the back of my best firends house).
The world famous writer Catherine Cookson was born in neighbouring Jarrow.
The River Tyne was a world famous ship building river.
Stan Laurel (Laurel & Hardy) was born across the river in North Shields.
The 60’s Pop Group the Animals came from just up the river.

Cut and paste this into the Google Earth ‘Fly To’ and press the [Return] Key:

54 59' 38.88"N, 1 25' 41.63"W (make sure all the spacing etc., is correct)

I hope you all will do the same. It will be very interesting to learn more about each other.

Google Earth is a fantastic free program that you can download from this link:

I was born on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada----I was not expected to live but I fooled everybody and have made it in great good health to 55---lol.

I'm from English and Swedish stock so I overcook my veggies and occasionaly my temper hits BERSERK like any good Viking.

I live in Victoria which is known as the Garden City of Canada.
It used to be very English before the DRAGON came---now it's the home of different peoples from many strange lands.
It's a nice place to be--DRAGON

Hi Gordon,

good idea! But no celebrated men were born in my country, I think...

I'm living in a village of 70 souls called Zachstorf in the Free State of Bavaria. But it isn't really free, it belongs to Germany ... Our folk speaks a broad bavarian dialect and we are called 'Rotteua Biffehn' (in english: buffalos out of the valley of the river 'Rott' - in german: Rottaler Büffel) here in this countryside near the Austrian border.

The next bigger city is Passau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passau).

The nearest race track is the Salzburgring (http://www.salzburgring.com), one and a half hour to drive to with my Bel Air . It's a highspeed track, unhappily it is not coverted für GTL yet .

In the half of the way lies Mattighofen, where the KTM-Motorcycles are manufactured (http://www.ktm.com). I'm riding a KTM 640 LC4 Supermoto for myself ...

One hour driving in the opposite direction lets me get to Dingolfing, where the BMWs are poduced (http://www.bmw-werk-dingolfing.de/dingolfing/ htdocs/lowband/com/en/index.html) ...

Next, please!

Very nice to read guys! Gee it look likes 1 big city where u live, so many citys... so close....
Is that red car yours?
It look likes you can walk to the sea? It sounds like a famous town! Nice to read all the info.

Wildbill lives far far away Victoria looks very nice, many tourists?

I'm from Vollenhove in Holland, when you search voor Vollenhove with Google Earth he will find it for you
It's a small and old town (7000 people) in the middle of Holland. Very old centre with old buildings, I live in a house that is from 1881.
Until 1950 Vollenhove lay on the Zuiderzee (sea) and was a rich fisherstown, after 1950 they started with the big "Zuiderzee Works Project". Very long story, check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flevoland
In short, the sea became land, no sea = no fish, no fish = no fishers etc.

There is a very famous Shipyard in Vollenhove, its known all over the world. They make very luxe and expensive private sailyachts for the richest people on this earth. Costs, approx 1.000.000 euro per meter!! Yachts are 40~100 meters long(!)
People that buy a Yacht there are people that buy a brand new Ferrari 430 to go 2 times per year from Schiphol, Amsterdam to Vollenhove to check the status of there Yacht that is under construction.

The Shipyard is just 300 meters from my house, my daddy works there
For more info see: http://www.royalhuisman.com/index1.htm and go to
Gallery of Yachts.

Vollenhove is 7km from Giethoorn, very famous town, especially by Germans, because of the watersport , You'll find it with Google Earth

Good idea, Gee.

I live in Norway, a placed called Vestfossen (translated: west of the waterfall) This is an area with much farming and woods, and they delivered wood for shipbuilding for hundreds of years, and with a lot of papermills along the rivers. They aren't producing anymore, but many of them are museums.
Beautiful woodlands with mostley fir and pine. A rich wildlife with moose, roe, fox, lynx, eagles, falks and hawks. Even a stray bear can pass the woods. Also a lot of lakes with good fishing.
As there is many graveled roads in the woods, this is rally-land, and many good norwegian rally/rallycross-drivers are coming from this area.

Nearby city of Kongsberg, used to be a silvermine city, and all our coins where made there. Nowadays it have developed high-tech knowledge within weapons and auto industry.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace have made the Penguine missile, used by Nato forces.
Kongsberg Automotive have developed, and delivers parts, mainly transmission, to the car industry,

Also a nice wintersport place. They've got lots of Olympic medals within skiing, mainly skijump, and snowboard.

My coordinates will be: 59 45' 27"N 9 50' 6"E
just outside the high-res area of Google Earth.

Think al politicians should drive racingsims, then there is no time for making war or other stupid things

I come from Lübeck, a beautifull midsize town in nothern germany. Lübeck has a very lovely old town and the most delicious marzipan in the world is made here. I`ve you find anywhere "Niederegger Marzipan" then try it and you`ll agree

I like my hometown!

Greetings from Lübeck

I live in Scotland,
it's the Northern-ish Part of the UK and my Google location is West
and Not East as that's in the North Sea.

Our House is located very close to the Sauce Line. “the Sauce Line” runs North/South. East of this line you can go into a chip shop and ask for Salt n Sauce on your chips (please note: once your chips or supper has been dished out, you will be asked what you want on it or them, it’s at this point you can say “Salt n Sauce”) the sauce in question is a mixture of Brown Sauce and Vinegar and it’s free flowing but not runny. IF your West of this line you can’t get Salt n Sauce, but if you say “Salt n Sauce” you have just identified yourself as an East Coaster.

Scotland has lots of open spaces with superb driving roads in them, but I’d consider lots of the roads to be in a condition of a 3rd world nation, not a developed country within the EU and without local knowledge there are loads of places to kill yourself as you will see if you ever drive here by the number of crosses/bunches of flowers/football shirts at the side of the roads.

I love to ride my bike round Europe and there are a few picture of the VFR and the Ducati on tour, if you flick to the last pages in bikepics link and also a good few pictures of Scotland.

hi!

my 1. post here.

i live in urmitz, a small town near koblenz in germany. nothing outstanding here. best thing is that im 1/2 hour´s drive away from the mother "green hell". i´m there several times a month. my favourite place there is "brünnchen". again next saturday for "BF Goodrich Langstrecken-Pokal". there is also a youngtimer race in the supporting programme (BMW M1 on the "nordschleife" ).
was there last weekend for historic racing (on the gp-circuit). was great to see dr. martin zumtobel racing his Porsche 906 on the track!!!.
the "Nürburgring Classics" a few weeks ago where also much fun. there were sereal historic races on the "nordschleife".

o.k. greets from the "rheinland"

dirk

I am also new here, but not new in GTL (and GPL and GTP)

I am living in Magstadt http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=48.737151& lon=8.965255&z=15&r=0&src=msl, next to Stuttgart (Germany), where i am working and where i was born 44 years ago.
Every day i have to drive the backstaight of the old Solitudering http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=48.755896& lon=9.05428&z=14.7&r=0&src=msl to work. Very funny, i think the most drivers there every day do not know about the road they driving on
I am working at the University Stuttgart (Stuttgart-Vaihingen), only some hundert meters in the south-east of the Solitudering.

Some years ago i lived 14 years in Bad Cannstatt (Stuttgart), where Dan Gurney lived in his years he drove for Porsche.

Hi Gee!

What a nice idea and very interesting how many
nationalities come together here. That´s what the
web shall be used for first... international
understanding.

And this is my hometown.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aachen

Actually I live a few kilometers outside the
main town but Aachen is and will be my favourite
for ever. It´s a nice and often very funny place
to live. What Wikipedia did not say is, that the
people here are often friendly, frank to everybody,
blithe and they have a very special sense of humour,
comparable to the people living in the whole, so
called Rheinland and the neigbours in Cologne.
Aachen is as multi cultural as other big cities
because of the nearness to Belgium and the
Netherlands and the university where are many
students from foreign countries may be found.
More and more it grows together with the regions
in Netherland and Belgium and is nowadays called
Euregio. A better example of what the European
Union can do.

And Aachen is very old and was founded more
than 2000 years ago by the Romans as recreation
area because of the termal springs which are
very popular up to now.

Another fact not mentioned (and that would be
liked by the right "Bude guy&quot is that Aachen
has one of the greatest denseness of pubs, Bars
and taverns in Germany

The nearest race tracks are Spa, Zolder and the
Nuerburgring, all to be reached within an hour.
As little boy I spend a lot of time there (also
Zandvoort and Hockenheim) because I have an uncle
who was semi professional and often successful
race driver in the late sixties and early
seventies, mainly on NSU 1000 TT and later
Fiat 128 Coupe or Opel Manta A.
But that´s another story.

Regards

Jochen

Hi all!

I live in Tampere, Finland. It is the 3rd largest City of Finland with some 204000 inhabitants. It is also the biggest inland City in Nordic Countries largely due to it's remarkable role in history of engineering and textile industry in Finland. Those still exist here but nowadays Tampere is more known about technological and medical High-Tech innovations (http://www.tampere.fi/english/tampereinbrief/ history/index.html).

Tampere is located between two large lakes called Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi which are separated partly by world's highest (160 m above sea level) gravel ridge called Pyynikinharju which was formed during the Ice Age. The nearness of water is dominant for Tampere and quarter of it's surface is covered by 200 lakes and ponds. You find more information about Tampere from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampere. But picture tells more than 1000 words and moving picture even more. So please look at this video (http://www.tampere.fi/ekstrat/matkailu/ lightandlife2007.wmv), 33 MB and 6 minutes but really worth for watching by my opinion.

The nearest race circuit is located in Hämeelinna, some 76 km's south of Tampere. It is called Ahvenisto and it exists in Altbierbude tracks section. The circuit celebarated it's 40 years of action last summer. Fan pages can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Ahvenisto_Race_Circuit. It host among other events the yearly Historic Grand Race (http://www.historicrace.fi/HGR07e.htm) which is organized by Historic Race Finland community (http://www.historicrace.fi/indexe.htm).

Cheers,

Timo

Hi

I live near Zürich, largest city of Switzerland.

Ok we haven't any racetracks here since the ban after the desaster 1955 in LeMans.
Original i'm from Bern, exactly Bremgarten.....does that name ring a bell?
Bremgarten was the location for the F1 Swiss GP between 1950-1954.

Regards
Dan
