Please explain online login step by step 12 Years ago

I thought I was a reasonably intelligent person until encountering multiplayer login in GTL!!
There are many confusing issues and I am mystified why this excellent website does not post a sticky with EXACT step by step instructions about joining.
So far, I have Autoupdater working and have patched GTL so the car classes are correct. BUT, there appear to be two separate ways to create an online account, ONE through GTL itself, and another here on this website. In my user profile here I have TWO separate accounts, one for the forum and another (which I assume was required) for my online multiplayer login. Under my profile here it now lists my lobby username which is the same as the one I use within GTL, but I cannot c check the password as there is no listing of it, but I'm pretty sure I have entered the correct password within GTL.
But whatever I do I cannot connect. It tried deleting the Online GTL key and then re-entered it (correctly caps locked and no dashes).
Still no joy. Within my PLR file under multiplayer it creates a new lobby text file and contains my lobby username. Could someone please explain EXACTLY what should show in the 4 lines at the foot of the PLR multiplayer section, especially the name of the server. Also, do i need a specific IP address in some txt file or within the PLR. Please do not be shy about leaving no stone unturned when explaining.
Also, Autoupdater contains fields for server address, IP address etc etc. How can I possibly know what to enter here?
Could someone please take me, STEP by each STEP, with NOTHING left out, about how EXACTLY, each tiny step at a time, assuming complete ignorance on my part, what I have to do, right from the beginning, how to login and race online.
May I please make a request to the administrator here to display a prominent link on the main page with PRECISE AND EXACT step by step instructions about this? There are clearly many people like me who simply cannot login and it is because there is no clear and precise info. Thank you.

first of all, you have to register to the lobby within GTL (left side on the multiplayer connection screen - name/password/email). If you already have done that, but don't remember the correct password, you can delete your account with your username and "DELETE_ACCOUNT" as eMail-adress. So the name is free to register again. Other possibility is to use a different online-name and make a new registration.

Thank you. Well, there IS a confusion then because when setting up my account here, it most definitely asked me to ALSO set up my lobby/multiplayer account. In that case are the two conflicting or is the lobby info here ignored?
Also, once I have set up an account in GTL and it does not work, does that mean I have to set up a new online account and each time make a NEW email address? Because surely if I keep using the same email address the server will "think" that email address is already taken. If I have to keep using a new email address I will run out of email addresses?
It is not made clear whether I can use the SAME email address but a different online username and password if the first attempt fails.
PLEASE, PLEASE can you post a detailed, step by step set of instructions also answering my points about email addresses being used again. Doing this will make it easier for you and stop the many posts I see here about the confusion by other users. Thank you.

OK,
I did the following:
* Deleted Online Key from Regedit
* Started GTL, entered Key again]
* Registered new account with new password and new email
Result: Server cannot connect.
PLEASE, I ask you again, please post a step by step instruction. I am grateful for this website and server. But please, make it easier to join with proper, detailed instructions. Thank you very much.

There is a "dedicatedserver.ini" file within GTL. This contains an online username and password in HEX code. Is THIS the problem? Should I delete this .ini file? Please could someone help. Thank you.

Hello Passum,
multiplayer-account and forum-account doesn't sync in anyway, it's helpfull to use the same name but not necessairy.
To drive online here you have to register ingame/multiplayer/internet with an e-mail and password, there for you have to enter the onlinekey which is different to the serialnumber of the game. On the original box you find this number on the back of the manual. Otherwise you have to contact your dealer to get an onlinekey.
If this is always done and it doesn't work you can delete your online-account as described in the Posts of B8man and try again.
cheers

Hi Passum,
I also had problems everytime when I had to install or re-install the whole thing on a system. Basically it should work with those simple steps:
1. Create Bude Account
2. Install GTL (dont start it yet)
3. Install Bude and update
4. In GTL, create a new online account
5. Log in with your new online account
My main mistakes until now were the following:
1. Mixing up online key and CD Key (theyre not the same!)
2.Forgetting to create a new online account before trying to log on.
Also, Autoupdater contains fields for server address, IP address etc etc. How can I possibly know what to enter here?
No need to enter anything here. Its empty also in my (working) installation.
Also, once I have set up an account in GTL and it does not work, does that mean I have to set up a new online account and each time make a NEW email address?
Nope, if you remember your login and password, there should be no problem.
Try again and check the basic things: Passwords correct? Correct Key entered?
If it doesnt help, post the exact problem that you encounter and then someone surely can help you.
Hope to see you soon on the track!

Thanks for the above answers. The problem is, when you delete or create an account, the reaction of the message within GTL is very restricted, because there are only two messages: Either "cannot connect" or "registration failed", with no reason given. Of course this is not Altbierbude's fault - it is the limitations of GTL.
Nevertheless it would be easy I think to log registrations and deletions so that without having to contact the admininstrator here, a user can examine the log to see what is going wrong.
Anyway, thanks for your help. I have generated a new PLR file with a new name and I will try again, but I still do not know which email I have "used up" because there is no way of knowing whether "delete-account" has been successful.

Yes, making the server logs public is definitely a nice idea to make those issues easier to be solved.
Let's see, maybe some of the admins here read this - if there is no reason not to do it I'm sure they will.
For now, if you're not sure which one is correct I would just try both logins...
One more important problem i now remember were always firewall issues. Try to deactivate your firewalls (also windows firewall and that crap)
If you're behind a restrictive ISP, try to use a VPN service.

Hooray! Success at last. Created new profile (oops it gets rid of my hundreds of setups - nevermind). Somehow GTL was not connecting with my old profile. Now to complete the rest of the cars and tracks as I get kicked off each time I log in, presumably due to car mismatch.
Thanks for all the tips and replies!
