I looked on Wikipedia for Drifting and found the link below. It gives a lot of info about techniques.

quite interesting for the theoretical start. whoever wants to add some pictures to his though should look out for this:

Drift Bible by Keiichi "Drift King" Tsuchiya Best Motoring International Special Edition DVD

with this vid i learned my drifting, its quite helpful, but you have to watch it a couple of times and practice vice versa for it to make perfect sense.

im sure the vid can be still found on some torrents.

Hi sausage-fans,
yesterday i tried to make a ford falcon become a sloppy sausage, but i wasn't satisfied with my attempts.
can somebody give some advice on the car setup? which setup makes the car most likely become a sloppy sausage?
i read the wikipedia-article, but it won't help a setup-noob.
greets&thanx,m

i see,
i always forgot about the onions and pepper. although these ingredients are optional i can already taste how they will improve my drfting-style.

setup is actually not _that_ important with falcon (besides high steering lock of course).

if you wanna d/l what i'm using. Give it a shot under online folder "estorill 88" (its like the only setup in there, and so far ppl liked it)

anyways, good to hear, some of you guys keep practicing.

best regards,

D H

Hi Milchkuh,

Sorry to have taken so long to send you an answer, I had simply missed your message.

There are different ways to set your car up to drift, personally I like a firm set up whereas others may choose a soft set up. Trial and error is the key to finding which you like best.

A soft suspension will allow you to transfer the weight from one side of the car to the other in a big way but because it is soft the car will be harder to get back into a straight line or change direction when you want it to. This is the same as when on a track with lots of chicanes when you race and you find your car does not what to change momentum for the next corner.

Tuning.
As I have said I favour the harder set up as it allows you to change direction more easily. When racing on twisty turning tracks this is also better. There are lots of ways you can use the suspension to tune for drifting. Some cars you will find take very little tuning whilst others a lot. The Jaguar MkII is a good example of a car that is not ready to drift easily.

Firstly your steering lock should be short so that you do not have to turn the steering wheel more than around 400 degrees (which is about that of a racing car) also alter the steering lock (lenkung einschlag) on GTL to at least 17 or a full 35 till you are comfortable with that. You need over-steer so that the back end can be thrown out easier. This can be achieved by hardening the rear Anti Roll Bar (Querstabisator) till it works for you, but your rear end may want to slide to much or not quite enough so further tuning is needed. Put the back tyre pressure up and maybe the front pressure down a bit. Lessening the caster (nauchlauf) angle can help. A low negative or zero toe-in (spur) on the front and zero or minus toe-in (spur) on the back.

Front camber (sturz) higher and rear camber can be altered to suit, to low or to high will give a desired effect. I usually have my damper bump & rebound high (stoßdampfer & Rückstoßdampfer). Raise the power (antried) till you can use this to help power slide comfortably and keep the coast (leerlauf) % low as this will also aide in sliding.

Drifting.
What they say on the video is also true on GTL about weight transference, use of handbrake and ‘Scandinavian Flick’. My preferred way is to lift of the throttle and a split second later throw the car into the corner till the tail slides, maybe dab the brake to transfer more weight to front if I am going too fast and when I get round about 25% to 50% of the corner just drifting I will apply the throttle on & off to help keep the slide going.

How much throttle? This is up to you and the corner you are on and the car and set up you have. No two corners are the same and you will more than likely go into the same corner in a few different ways anyway.

The only way to find out is to practice and as you see on the video even the best get it wrong a fair bit. Just enjoy it and do not worry as we will all be making many mistakes

I hope this helps you and has not put you off. If you want a set up or help when you come to the club just ask, no problem!

C U Tuesday I hope.
