For 'Drifting' and learning how too! vor 17 Jahren, 9 Monaten
|
|
Welcome,
If like me, you like the rear of your car to handle like a link of sloppy sausages, then the 'Sloppy Sausage Club' is for you.
We cannot drift properly on the normal Bude servers unless we all do it as it is unfair to those who want to race properly. So having a dedicated server for about 3 hours once a week on Tuesday nights will give us the opportunity to learn the skills and help each other progress.
I hope you will join me for this between the hours of 8pm to 11pm CET (7pm to 10pm GMT) every Tuesday from 21st of August.
It is not just using engine power to the rear wheels to make the car drift but also to slide it around corners using the weight of the car. All the tracks are not suited to doing this so look for the ones you like and let me know.
The server will be for Bude members only and will need a password to get onto it. Only Bude cars and original GTL cars will be used, however, tracks will be from most other sources.
I am open to any suggestions so please contact me.
Cheers,
Gee-Deeman aka The Old Git with the sloppy sausage
PS. Could someone translate this into German please. Thank you.

lol? you managed to get us, drift crazy folks, a server? gee, brilliant, what should i say
anyways, i'm heavily supporting this suggestions, since we do not want to interfere with the racing guys, need special tracks and cars.
I'm in! What do I have to do?
Best regards,
D Hildebrand

The server is me and my computer Nick. The Bude have given me there blessing to use them as the platform from where to launch it, so a big thanks to them.
I think the Bude is great and hope that this will help to draw in more members new and old and that the Bude prospers from it
It won't take much organising on my part and in reality I hope all members will just help it to run itself.
Thanks for your support m8, I new I could count on you being there.
At the moment just look for good tracks and message me with your suggestions. Then keep your eye on this space.
Cheers.

i'm up for a bit of that, think square sausage will drift when it's hot and covered in brown sauce.
Pantera is mega for getting the back end hanging out, but it might be a bit too fast, unless you run a very tight track with loads of slow 180 corners and short straights, and with plenty of run off
Falcon is a good bet
can't think of any tracks off hand, well maybe one silverstone club
cya on the track, looking out the side window
cheers

Hey Gee! You are promoted to Moderator I see Congrats!
I'll try to get there next Tuesday!
A good dirft track is a track with very long wide corners, like Silverstone or Magny Cours or the last corner of Indianapolis? No TT circuits
Futher I suggested to start with not too powerfull RWD cars, the Mustang or Falcan seems to be a good option.

guys i wanted to mention this beforehand.
when started drifting more sincerely a couple of months ago, is was really dissatisfied with the smoke that i produced
so, please, its much more motivating if after intalling the "smoke patch" (dunno think mod. file from gtr2 or something -i ll lock it up) and furthermore and most importantly set the smoke lvl in the plr file to
Smoke Player Threshold FW="0.30000"
Smoke Player Threshold RW="0.05000
@gee: about the tracks, i ll send you a list tonight, i ll be a good cut between fast and short corner...trust me, all handselected
about the cars.... i honestly dont care which car is gonna be taken. just remember, it can be challenging and fun to drift with the rsr even
thus, a limitation would bring absolute certainty to equal speed. hmm difficult one,...falcons are a must though.

Hi gogs,,
Thanks for the interest but square sausage though delicious just ain't sloppy enough but fine on the greasy side for a bit sliding and the brown sauce ....mmmmm what spicy taste!
The best cars I have found are The Cobra, Daytona, both Corvettes, GT350, Falcon, Mustang and even the TVR. Any thing with less power will not really Drift well.
There are more tracks than you think that we can try. As you become better you will use less and less track width. I love Cadwell Park and that's a very narrow track!
What I need know from all drivers interested is what there thoughts are about the format of Practice, Qualifying and the Race length. From information received we can make a democratic decision.
Catch ya later.

Yo Nick m8y,
Thanks for the mail, and you had best be there on Tuesday or I'll come over to C U with a blowtorch, he he!
Below is a part reply to 'dirtyvfr' mail before yours. Similar questions so same answers, hope that is OK?

Thanks Dennis for the tip I have downloaded and installed ready to try, do all drivers see your extra smoke or just yourself? Real cool if all can!

more tyre smoke, might give that a try, i run with autoclutch off and love to look back and see a puff of tyre smoke when i change gear. sad yes but it always gives me a
so will we be racing or going for style marks ?
thought of a track
Nurburg M*something, that very very small track, it's a b1tch to get a big heavy powerfull car around and the only real way to do it, for me anyway, is to throw/chuck/drift the car and the car is almost never going in a straight line.

we are certainly going for style. race will not be that important anymore, since even a seperate judge counldnt overview the cars. thus we will have to make it like the IDC rules.
spectating every one could be done only in quali. counting a combination of corners or a lap (style, speed, and line)
it would be sort of helpful to program a drift box, to submit results after the race or something. dunno difficult if you look at it from a competitive perspective.

Zandvoort is also a good drift track in my opinion, the first and last corners are made for it!
Gee, the amount of smoke is a local setting, so if you change your local userfile it will only effect you.
Gee the coffee is hot and rdy for you in Holland!
Think I'll try the Healey or the Ferrari first to drift with

Post edited by: Nick, at: 2007/08/15 09:20

so what style of track are we heading for
examples, i'm not saying that we use either of them
Nurburg M*, super tight, slide/chuck/rear end out
or
Dijon GP, open, slide/drift/rear end out
only asking a question

Hi again Gogs,
Is your christian name the same as mine, Gordon?
Dennis, aka Imper aka D.Hilderbrand has lots of ideas. I was just going to goof around and see what happens but he is so enthusiastic I am making him the 'Technical Director' and he is looking into ways of how we can run competitions.
At this early stage I think what will happen is that the first week or so we will just practice and talk, then we will run to a format of practice for a set time then do some competition with only one driver on the track at the time so the rest of us can watch and learn and laugh.
If you have a look at the Drifting Techniques thread you will find a link to Wikipedia and an article on Drifting.
Also on the thread Imper talks about a film called the Drifters Bible which I have now downloaded from 'BitComet' and driver Zoic has supplied 2 links for looking at some clips from it.
Dijon is a good suggestion with those long corners. Last night we race on Toban Long reverse and it is a really good track and that goes for both directions.
Small track like Mullenbach should be fine also. As you get the rythmn you find tracks you thought were bad are actually good. We also raced on Shortwood last night, I hate that track for racing but Drifting and sliding the arse out was good on there.
Cheers m8
Gordon

Hi Nick,
Yup, Zandvoort is good I have had the Cobra on there. Youre going to have to get a rear wheel drive Celica and practice for real ...ooh ooh ooh ...yeah!
Last night we raced on Toban Long reverse and it is good either direction as it has some good flowing corners where you can get a good rythmn.
I think I will make a thread for track suggestions!
Yuss I will do that now!
Cheers Nick,
Gordon

hi
how will that work, i assume the server is on a dedicated box ? and not on your local games machine running a dedicated server.
to drift we (i) need totally stable pings and also low pings, low ping's shouldn't be a problem as your just down the road from me
cheers

Gee, there are no RWD Celicas... only FWD and AWD..thats why I'm considering an old MR2 for trackdays and maybe my racelicense!
A good 20 years old MR2 costs around 2500 euro and a racelicense costs 1500 euro, thats 4000 euro...
On this moment thats too expensive for me... but maybe in the future! I really wanna do that!

Ping might be a pong! vor 17 Jahren, 9 Monaten
|
|
Hi Gogs,
I will be using the dedicated server that is installed with the game on my machine at home.
I don't know much about computers but I have tried this a couple of times before with no problems. There were only up to 6 drivers, 2 from GB, 1 from Finland and 3 from Germany.
My Ping appeared to be good at the time and I think it may have been one of the lowest on the GTL lobby at the time which surprised me and that was with a less powerful machine than I have now.
You have me worried now mate, will have to fry myself some sloppy sausage to calm me down, he he.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers
Gordon

Drifting sounds good for me, but my ping is not the best and sometimes i have stupid "little" lags, so i hope it will be possible for me to have some good drifts.
But lets try it at Tuesday
