Detomaso Pantera GTS gr3

The DeTomaso Pantera appeared in 1971 with a low, wedge-shaped body designed by Ghia's Tom Tjaarda. Between 1971 and 1973, 6.128 Panteras were produced in Modena, the largest number of a single marque of De Tomaso produced. In 1972, De Tomaso began offering Group 3 and 4 racing Pantera's. Once 1000 examples had been made, homologation into Group 3 could be granted.

A Ford V8 Cleveland engine was installed along with De Tomaso's specially designed free-flow exhaust system producing 330bhp at 5400rpm with 325lb ft of torque at 3600rpm with the original Autolite 4300 four-barrel carburetor also being retained. There were some differences though and the standard Group 3 Pantera's were fitted with reinforced wishbones, a heavy-duty clutch and two alternative sets of gear ratios for the five-speed ZF gearbox.

Group 3 Pantera's went onto compete successfully for the duration of the seventies, many race and hill climb victories falling their way whilst some were even occasionally rallied. Between them, Antonio Trenti, Giuseppe De Gregorio and Chris Meek probably racked up more wins in Group 3 Pantera's than anyone else although the Ecurie Franco Britannic squad did have some high profile success at big events like the Tour de France.

The mod is linked to GTC65 class and the 300SL.
