Wheel, gamepad or wheelpad? 18 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi folks,

I'm really interested about your favourite hardware to go so fast around the track!?

I know, mine is very exotic - a INTERACT FX Racing Wheel for Windows 95/98, converted for my own to function under XP. In spite of using cotton gloves to hold the sweat, I cannot go faster with this, I think (the potentiometers are rubbish and the analog ranges for throttle, brake and steering are very low).

Nevertheless some of you are using a gamepad for heating around the track instead of a wheel, don't you? So what you are using? Tell me please, to get an answer for my next hardware investment. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Well some people have seen UFOs and some people have seen Dragons on the Bude---every once in a while they see them together---pink elephants anyone?

I use a Driving Force Pro from logitech and have 78,000k on the Bude and another 50,000k off the Bude (sacrilege}

I would recommend it except for a real susceptability to cathair. I have had to take the pedals apart 10 times to clean them and blow out the pots because of calibration issues. I swear I could assemble another cat with a week of its shedding material.

Now I have plastic bagged the whole unit with the cord sticking out like a rat's tail. This slows the disassembly done to around 1 time a month--lol

hi

the best thing about having a steering wheel and pedals, is you have a free hand to drink, #hic

i use a G25, but i hear the DFP is just as good and a lot cheaper, the G25 does have a clutch pedal but i only use it for starting and to stop the engine from stalling when i go off the track and sometime to slip the clutch to get the revs up, but you can assign the clutch to a button on the DFP. PS. you will also get a lot of feedback from the force feedback

cheers

gogs

Hi!

I allso useing G25 wheel and must say that the tighter pedals whit gluth and bigger lether wheel its lot better than driving force pro. But after all i think DFP whit sheaper price is at least second best pedal/wheel on market, unles u realy going pro on this Allso one wery inportant thing is that ur driving position is same every time! Thats why i recommend to built an a cocpit whit real car seat, thats a half way to pro and really improve ur lap times. So go in the shop and buy your ass off!

Ps. Sorry my english

Hi

I am using a gamepad, Logitech Dual action, which is cheap (very) and cheerful but not really good enough.

I agree the biggest problem is no free hand to smoke/drink but the best bit is its more comfy, unless you have a proper car seat/pedal setup I suppose .

I will try a new one soon because it is also quite cheap "Run 'N' Drive 3-in-1 by Guillemot" (on amazon) which has optical wheel thing. I hope it is better because I havent space to put a wheel. will let you know here if you want.

cheers

Hey Guys,

thank you very much for so many of your tips and tricks (this thread exists on german board also)

I've seen all sorts of gaming controllers across the GTL-community. Some drive with pads, some with very exotic things, the most of you with a professional wheel. But yesterday evening David (german speaking) left me behind using his keyboard ...

For this I have to learn to drive before I blame my hardware for my own mistakes, I think...but a G25 would be fun. And later, when my sausage is sloppy enough, I take drifting lessions from Gee-Deeman

Bye,
Uwe

I drive only with my keyboard, this is why:

- i can't drive and chat (or drink i don't remember )
- the binary values of acceleration, braking, and turning means i don't always go where i want

I think i'm finally going to invest in a gamepad, less accidents maybe in the future, gee will be happy

Well I got the thrustmaster gamepad (as mentioned) and have been practising with it. It has taken quite a few hours to get used to it, it is not as versatile or as accurate as I had hoped.

I have managed to go half a second quicker in 1 car at 1 track so I suppose it is allright. I am still not sure though, the only problem with the old one was the steering lost calibration.

Anyway see you all on the servers again soon (if I can get back to speed ).

cheers

Re: driver view / Wheel, gamepad 18 Years, 6 Months ago
ok, i have to ask the question

what driving view are you all using when driving, as i can't get my head round using anything other than the in car view and a steering wheel on a PC as you have such a high degree of steering and pedal accuracy compared to a console.

I use the in-car view sometimes, but mainly the bonnet view.

Can GTL be played on/off-line on a console?

I use my keyboard, and if you know a track well, you can drive like hell with it. It's bad that I can't smoke and drink, while driving, but it's incredible what level of control you can get with keyboard.

The reason I use keyboard, is that I drive the GTL from my laptop, with the lowest possible graphics, and I don't gonna buy a wheel, until a gamer pc is in the house. I'm going to suck bigtime, when starting with the wheel, and who knows, maybe I'll be a keyboardist for the rest of my life?

I allways drive with the bonnet view.

i use a playstation dualshock 2 controller with an usb-adapter for my laptop. it works superb. the adapter costs 10 €, and the pad (if you dont have one) costs 20 €. works fine and is the best solution after racing-wheel.

see you on track
