I suddenly remember why I stopped playing a while back...

I have formatted my PC and did a fresh install. I unlocked my Steam version and installed that, which is already v1.1.0.0. I have tried to connect online with just GTL and no mods/addons which worked fine, except nobody seems to play anymore. So, being a fan of the concept, I decided to get my Altbierbude downloads going and followed all the steps according the website. I have now downloaded and shared (forwarded the ports on my router as described in the help for the altbierbude app) all the additional content.

The game works 100%. I've played around on my home track (Killarney, Cape Town, South Africa) with a Kadett, and all is well. Except, since I downloaded and installed everything, I cannot connect to the lobby at all. I go to multiplayer, select online, enter username and password (which password do I have to use here now?) and after a while of attempting to connect, it just gives me a 'General Error', and that's it.

This is exactly what happened a year or two ago when I first wanted to race on Altbierbude.

I would LOVE to race with you guys and have been looking forward to it, but I can't get online. Please, any help at all would be appreciated. Must I forward other ports except for the P2P? A setting I missed? Must I use my Altbierbude password?

Hi Jan-Daniel,

first of all, you have to register to the lobby within GTL (left side on the multiplayer connection screen - name/password/email). If you already have done that, but don't remember the correct password, you can delete your account with your username and "DELETE_ACCOUNT" as eMail-adress. So the name is free to register again. Other possibility is to use a different online-name and make a new registration.

The thing is, it worked two days ago before I installed Altbierbude. I went online and joined a game and raced, against myself because no-one else was racing at the time, but I was online and racing on a server.

Any ideas?

I just tried something interesting with the following results:

When I login with correct username and passward, I get 'General Error'.

When I login with incorrect username or password, I get 'Could not connect to server'.

So it seems that I actually log in, but then afterwords something bombs out.

Hmmm,

I'm no expert, but as I know, the altbierbude uses it's own lobby (due to the fact, that there wasn't an official lobby for quite a while).

So it could be, that you registered to the re-launched official lobby a few days ago (if no abb-server was there, this could be a hint) and you have to register again, this time to the abb-lobby, to go online... (autoupdater points GTL to the abb-lobby).

Just an idea, I hope it helps...

I couldn't explain it better than Georg.
After the Autoupdater has done his job, you connect automatically to the ABB lobby. There you have to register again, in which you can use the same account data.
This should be all.

This is definitely the case, there were no ABB servers the other day which I found kinda odd.

Now, I tried to register, but my username already exists, and it's definitely me (same username as here, kowalski5233, and it's rather unique), but I don't seem to recall the password I used. How do I recover it?

Update - I have tried to delete my account by clicking on Register in-game and typing in my username, leaving both password fields blank and typing 'DELETE_ACCOUNT' in the e-mail field, but then I also get a 'Registration Failed: General Error' message.

I deleted your account in the ABB lobby. Now you can register again ( without any problems like "username already exists" ) and with a new password.
