I'm running GTL with Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit and i'm connected online using second to top of the line HS cable internet.
Pretty much everything having to do with GTL (may it be using the autoupdater or racing online) has all been running smoothly and really no problems or hiccups.
A couple of days ago, i turned on the puter and was gearing up to do some racing when after i click on muiltplayer, i got this "Serial Number" and the box where it goes empty. It wouldn't let me go on until i put the serial number in. So i can only assume that it requires the key code from the GTL DVD box to play online. I put in the require code for GTL online and it sent me through without losing my account or stats.
When i got to the GTL lobby, the first thing i noticed was i can see ping results. Before the serial numbers, i never was shown pings in the ping column.
Its showing me that i'm averaging about 104 to 107 pings on all GTL servers right now. I think that's pretty good for someone who is across the Atlantic from the GTL servers.
I try out the Bude servers from 1-6. What i get now is when i pass or am being passed, the other car or cars disappear and then reappear and at other times there is no problems of disappearing cars. A very few times, when i enter a server, the track loads fine but about 1 min later and no matter what i'm doing, the game would stop and reload the track again and i'm fine after that. This tell me that there is some serious lag going on.
So i don't know if that serial number did something to my internet connection with GTL or what but i'm hoping someone have any ideals of what happen here and if a solution could be possible.

10 million apologizes for knocking you off the track. As described above, you passed me and i saw you pass me but when you got in front of me, you disappeared. I immadiately slowed right down and was driving cautiously cause i knew you were going to reappear anytime soon. When you appeared, i was 1 foot away from your back bumper and i braked hard but it was useless and i knocked you off into the wall. I hit my "sorry" button but for some reason, it didn't show and i waited for you but i didn't know where you were. While waiting, cars were passing me disappearing and then reappearing as they go along. Wasn't sure if you were one of those cars so i drove slow thinking you were still behind me and was going to let you by if you showed up but you didn't. Was going to apologize in the chat room but you left.
Again many, many apologizes to you or anyone else i might of pissed off lately.

I don't know why you had problems in the first place so I can't help you there but the cars dissapearing etc sounds like it's your connection that is having problems or maybe the GTL server hit a rough patch, it does happen now and again.

If cars dissapear again then toggle the '- & +' keys on the keyboard keypad a few times and this usually clears the problem.

Sounds like someone (or something) deleted the key from your Windows Registry (did you maybe run a registry cleaner program before it happened?)

Whatever the answer, it should not affect your connection.

Ask someone to record and post a server replay to see if your car lags. (your own replay will not tell you much)

If just your car stops in the server replay, then the lag is caused by something at your side (could be in your PC, or your ISP, or anything en route to the server)

If all the cars seem to stop then it's a server lag (which happens occasionally) and not something to worry about

first off... no Windows Registry cleaner was used.
What i'm getting at is that before....when the server lagged, i felt or see very little of it. I was rarely interrupted. My car or other cars would not disappear. I get a 1 sec freeze frame and that's it. Maintaining my control of the car and seeing other cars racing around me with no bumps or crashes. Would see other cars froze on the track during the lag and i would just pass by and continue on, sometimes gaining a position and i would get no readings at all in the ping column in the Bude lobby.
Now, since re registering the serial numbers, i now experience that lag with disappearing cars and what not and i now see readings in the ping column.
It looks just like that when i first join the Bude when i had HS phone line. Thats why i went to cable. Huge improvement over phone lines.
I do have it set at cable in the lobby but i don't know if that really works. i put it at ISDN for the hell of it and no change.
Could possibly be my end. I live in the country but will be moving into the city at months end. Internet service here in the country and city are like night and day. Hopefully the city will improve this connection.

ok, now i have moved and as it turns out, it was my server provider.
When i went to cable, i bought their modem that covers all of their internet speed. From the lowest of low speed to the highest of high speed, it was covered on this modem. So i got their so called second to highest internet speed and i was in Bude heaven. no problems at all. Sometime this summer, they changed it. They came out with another modem that covers from medium speed to high speed. My modem all of a sudden was down graded to low speed-medium speed. Those idiots never informed me of the changes. Even when i called them that i might be having internet problems with the Bude, they told me there was no problems at their end and that it had to be coming from the Bude. They continue to charge me for high speed yet my own modem was downgraded to medium speed. It was only after i moved in that i called them to get this modem up and running again and that if i wanted high speed, i would have to get this new modem.
i totally flip on them for not informing me and for charging me three months of high speed internet that i was only getting medium speed. After their so called apologies to me, they credited my account for the three months and i use that credit toward their new modem and now i'm back in business.
I'm now on their new high speed modem and everything is up and running smoothly again on the Bude.
I guess it just go to shows that you better make sure you know what your paying for when it comes to this sort of thing.
I like to thank everyone who responded to this thread. Your help was much appreciated but as it turned out, it was those idiots at my server provider that was the problem.

After trying in vain for quite sometime this evening to log into the lobby and not seeing any servers at all, I googled it and found out that it appears that all the old HOST info and the LOBBY info that used to be required to get into the bude lobby is no longer required.

I deleted all that info and am still getting a failed connection to the lobby. Can someone tell me how long this new system has been in place and how many freakin times the GTL lobby has been down in that period of time?
