when i try and run this file altbierbude_en.pyw it comes up with this message,

It looks like you did not install Python as Administrator and some runtime files were not installed.
To fix this you could install Python again as Administrator or using the shell and install Python with the command:
runas /user:Administrator "msiexec /i <path>\python-2.6.msi".

Alternatively you can download and install the runtime files from Microsoft which comes with an installer.

another new user (returning GTL player) here and had the exactly same issue. Some details would help (operating system, are you normally running administrator, etc) in solving the reason you're experiencing this, but here's some pointers I learned today from my adventure in Vista 64 and Altbierbude updater:

- Make sure you have administrator priviledges
- If you install 64-bit PythonVx, be sure to install 64-bit Python too. I had a long hard fight with PythonVx (because of this) and turns out, for a good reason.

It is a good idea to download the proper version of Python from www.python.org and PythonWx from www.pythonwx.org, and make sure that they are both either 32-bit or 64-bit install packages.

So, having ensured you've got the same version of Python and PythonVx's install packages, you need to ensure that when you install Python, the install runs in administrator mode.

Assuming you have the admin password for your computer, uninstall both Python and PythonVx first. Then press windows-R (yes, the windows button) and insert that command you posted (runas...) in the window that pops up, substituting the <path> part with the location of your downloaded MSI install file for Python (also make note you may have downloaded Python 2.6.1 instead so make sure the filename matches.

After having reinstalled Python, install PythonWx and then hope for the best...
