Hello!

I find this problem rather disturbing. The game itself is old and it seems cannot use unicode properly, potentaiily leading to game-braking bugs for users of non-EU windows locale.

As of today, at least 110 files cannot be read by the game, and while i couldn't care less for .txt and .jpg and maybe .kmz, some files are crucial, for example TC65 Kadett B's what i believe are suspension files, or Talents, or driver textures.

What i propose: change all critical filenames to ISO basic Latin alphabet / US-ASCII and maintain all further mods up to these standards. I'd be happy to assist preparing necessary changes.

These changes, i believe, should not hinder displaying of extended characters in-game in any way.

I don't know if someone else has this problem. Here are driver from USA, Spain, Portugal, Finnland, South-America and others. You didn't tell us which language you use in Gtl. And I see no german "Umlaut" in your post so I don't really understand the problem.

I'm gonna guess Japanese, which means a whole different character set which struggles with umlauts (I have seen a Czech person have that same issue if somebody on the Kölschbierbude joins with a 'Würth Racing' skin).
As for the list, the umlauts are present in all those files, but don't show in that list (e.g. the 'Kotflügel' files are listed as 'Kotflugel', which would be the fixed name already).

I can make a proper list with proper unicode paths to each file.

dvd version shows exactly the same problems with autodownloader, as the steam one.

i really dont know if you guys can make a working english GTL out of the fresh installation with current-version autodownloader and ABB patches.

I had a more proper look through the file list now and not a single one of these should cause any issues even if the game can't read it - which is also the case for my English game version (not sure if a German GTL install could read files with umlauts).

So, the game should function 100% fine still, even if in the case of the .dds (and probably .rcd) files it will use placeholder textures - however simply renaming those files (e.g. renaming Josef Skvorecký_BODY.DDS into Josef Skvorecky_BODY.DDS) can already make them work and also does not cause any online issues with lowGuard or the server compatibility.

Answer:
If you are constantly being kicked from the servers, it is probably because you are trying to connect to the server with a car that is not authorized.
If this is the case, I conclude that you are using the (still) encrypted DVD version and are being shown the wrong vehicle selection. You can find out how to do this further up in this FAQ under Installation.
To check whether you have done everything correctly, you can only see the authorized cars in the vehicle selection and when you drive onto the track, you should not usually get a message of a GDB deviation at the top of the chat.

But okay: You said you you do not have the GTL Patch from the Autoupdater installed, since there is no such option - and there's the issue. This patch is absolutely vital for playing on our servers, without it the car classes will not function properly.

Hiho, which version of GTL are you using? DVD? Or Steam? If Steam, did you take the GTL from the Steam directory? And with the Steam version, the option to remove copy protection (patch) does not appear because the Steam version has no copy protection. And as far as I know, the Steam version does not need a patch to V.1.1.0. So if the updater said it was ready and you still have problems joining the servers, then the first thing I would do is install the car classes manually. If it still doesn't work, then click on "Reinstall" under Commands in the Updater and everything will be checked again. A trace file could also help to find the error.

Another thing, which directory do you have the game installed in/did you try copy/pasting the whole install away from your Steam folder and then repeating the Autoupdater process with the new filepaths?

And beware: It seems that the Steam version can still have traces of the Starforce copy protection in it, which can break your whole OS if you restart the PC, so if possible the GTL Patch should be run even on Steam versions @Micha.
Two friends of mine had it (one though I'm not sure if she found her old DVD or used the Steam version) and a Steam review from 2020 also noted that Starforce broke his system.

Yup, i've copied the game to something like D:\GTL\ earlier to shorten filepaths if any filenames go north of 255 chars total.

Bordi sent me archive with clean steam game (exact copy as mine, md5 verified), but too suggested patching with 1.1 and enclosed the file, which i obliged as I thought it worth a shot.
And guess what - after patching the steam version with 1.1 patch, GTL Patch option appeared, patched something and unpacked something too.

In the middle of reinstalling mods now.

Old installation won't let me in the game, but now I have high hopes for the new installation.

If you only ever have the Mini Cooper, even though it is not currently on any of our servers, then (very probably) your onlinekey does not fit correctly.
As a rule, the onlinekey should consist of a 28 (4x7) digit alphanumeric string.
If this string consists of only 25 (5x5) characters, then it is the DVD key.
