It was exactly one year ago on the 7th November that I took part in my first Altbierbude race. After racing GTL off line for a while I looked around for servers to drive on in my spare time. I Googled GTL and it seemed clear that GTL4u.de would be where I would announce myself. It was not long before I new that I did not feel comfortable there as I did not want to drive in a league …I just wanted to come home from work and race informally and just for fun.
Because I was known in the Forum I still used this site and at the end of one of the threads I saw a link made by derDumeklemmer himself about the Altbierbude (Uwe, I cannot thank you enough…). I briefly looked over the ‘Bude’ site and thought …Yes! This is the place for me to drive.
Things did not go so smoothly at the beginning for me as I could not join the server because the track was not installed …but what tracks and where to get them? Then the next try …I get an infinite loop, one driver loads and loads over again (that is I think when I first met Micha). At that time there was no ‘Teamspeak or the ‘Download Script’ and I often put cars in the wrong folders, but, after practise and practice I mastered it.
The ‘Bude’ was now my only server and although I was damn fast off line …on line, well, that looked a bit different …I was lame, but one grows with experience and I got first class times.
I wanted to show the other drivers how fast I was but at this time we found the cars were a handful. If one of us spun into the gravel the whole field would wait for him …I was the one they waited for most often.
The membership grew and grew rapidly! Meanwhile I read many discussions about cheating and such like, many contributions were about how drivers did not obey the rules. I have seen many drivers come and go. But, I have had and still have lots of fun here!!!
You are probably thinking what is he trying to say? I would like to tell you that the team around the old beer booth has everything. These are the people of the first hour who introduce themselves in the Forum and give us such delicacies as the ‘Download Script’. The ‘Bude’ is what we all get from it! Quotation “You are the Bude”. In Teamspeak derDumeklemmer would remind us not to see the game as being too real, Do not take it so seriously, have fun!! This is what counts.
Franky BB said in the TS to me (as we pondered whether it is so right that we drive for hours in the circle) “Other people go every evening to the bar”, and he is right! We have our bar virtually at home! I would go even so far to say that we have probably the best bar in www (and probably the only one)!
Lastly, I would like to thank each and every one of you for:
Your help with problems and questions, for unforgettable fights on the track, for fairness, for set-to’s in the forum (I find over and over again quite amusing and as in all bars a brawl starts), for quite a lot of fits of laughter in the TS and also in the race, for those that read this astonishingly long list of prattle and of course for the platform that allows us to join as one!!!
Who has sat most of the summer in only their underpants in the bar???
I wish us all so much fun, and I am curious to see what the future holds for us!!!
Greetings from Simon
Thanks to GeeDee, for his helping hand. With combined power we managed to translate my german text into english language.
Many, many thanks!!!
