Hi,

a day before last ETCC 2011 race my G25 steering wheel broke up. It just snapped on both sides at the joining point of upper and down parts - the place where the leather upper is stitched together. The leather was the only thing to keep the parts together. I cut the stitches and what did I find? It's f*cking plastic inside! Would you believe?!

I then made a temporary fix by placing wooden blocks inside and tape outside. I tried to find out if Logitech had spare wheels but instead I found dozens of drivers worldwide with the very same problem. Many had asked the spare from Logitech but they are not selling spares to any end customer. You would have to send it fixed to an authorized service. I think they would have a minimum hour charge of let's say 100 euros + spares so there is no sense to get it "fixed" with similar wheel with such a bad design and material which propably breaks as easy again some day.

What then? I was not willing to just go and buy a new G27. After some googling I found two manufacturers for G25/27 adapters for real race car wheels - Chilicoke and Derek Speare Designs (Click to open links).

I bought a black anodized aluminium adapter and new longer shift paddles from Chilicoke in America and an OMP Super Turismo wheel from Italy. You can also find cheaper wheels but this one has 2 buttons so I did not have to buy any extra button plate to continue having the original button set up. The hardest part was soldering new wires for those buttons but I used the connectors and wires that came with the wheel, cut the original wires shorter and soldered them together inside the "box".

Now the solution is sturdy, looks great and has nice touch in use. The bigger diameter makes steering movements smoother. Just great!

Cheers,
Timo
