WIP: (1970) BMW 1600 TI vor 3 Jahren, 5 Monaten

Hi,
I have been now working on Brickyard Legends Legacy / Papag21's mesh, which was ment to be be BMW 1602 / 2002. The model work has been now in complete stop 4 years and as there's now team lead by Greg7 finalizing cars in their planned configuration (and with Papag21's permission), I thought that it has become time to me make the 1600 TI mod I planned releasing after BYL finishes their versions.
As I have old permission from Papag21 that I can do what ever I want with the 3D stuff he has done, I took the unfinished 1602 mod and 3 years old 1600TI physics and started looking how to make Papag21's 3D models really shine.
So, the target is cars that Alpina run in ETCC 1970 and won the Division 2 class.
So far I have done some small 3D work, chrome parts mapping, new template for the one bodystyle. There is 3 bodystyles which all are also shown in 1600TI Group 2 FIA homologation documents so I am trying to get them all included. BYL beta model had 7 different wheel styles but they all were with 15" wheels which is wayy to big for the 1970. So, I have converted (and fixed, these had wrong size as well) 13" wheels from "1970 Escorts" -Mod.
funnily enough, I planned this car to 2019 season already so the physics have been very close to be finished 3 years already.
There is still lot to be done, but as this is coming to NoGrip Legacy HTC season 2022, the release deadline has been set to February.
I am not the biggest fan of BMWs, but I can assure that more than anything I hate is sloppy modding, especially if it's done by me so expect no less quality than Gianninis.

Fantastic! A 1600 BMW will be so welcome in other classes than the 2002.
Can't find words to express gratitude for the masterful work you do. But, THANKS!

While I was developing the 1600 Ti, I got enough to information to make also 1970 2002 Ti for bigger class of the online championship.
This mod has been now sent to betatesters and skinners.
Here are the example skins:
1970 BMW 1600 Ti
1970 BMW 2002 Ti
MichaW got the beta car for testing and I will work with him to make Altbierbude version either 1600 Ti, 2002 Ti or Both depending what fits to altbierbude's class system.

Hi Nappe1,
my memory to the 1600 Ti is, that the car was mainly used in races WITHOUT any bodykit/ sills/ fender extensions/ spoilers etc. made of ugly glass fibre reinforced plastic constructions.
To be authentic, I propose just to use the original body shape from BMW production with original skins/ paintings. This would be the biggest benefit for GTL and is exactely the purpose of GTL (for me!).
regards,
dikl
P.S. I don't like the BMW 2002s - neither the optic nor the physics.

P.S. I don't like the BMW 2002s - neither the optic nor the physics.
They were raced plenty with two different arch extensions: https://www.racingsportscars.com/suffix/photo/BMW/
1600/TI.html?cat=4
I have no idea why BMW homologated two different arches to 1600 Ti in 1968 (year after the production of the car had deceased). They both extend the arches same amount and allow same size wheels to be used.
Most likely two different tuning companies (Alpina and Schnitzer perhaps?) did their own design and while adding one to homologation, it did no make much of difference to add them both. Both arch kits have been also homologated to 2002 Ti. It seems that the first batch of 2002 Ti's and last batch 1600Ti's did not differ from outside very much.
Here's the link to FIA official Homologation document: https://historicdb.fia.com/car/bmw-1600-ti-0
In 1970 Alpina won ETCC Division 2 with BMW 1600-2 or 1600 Ti, depending the source. between 1600-2 and 1600 Ti had two bigger differences: Ti was with dual carburators and higher compression. So you could technically make 1600-2 as Ti. But it had to be raced as Ti as 1600-2 homologation had only one carburettor. However it was not usual that same car ran with different specications in different races. Like Works Minis changed their type between 1070S, 1275S and 970S many times. So while results show Alpina running 1600, it probably was Ti or equal. 1600-2 (or 1602 as it was called after the 1971 facelift) got the dual carbs in 1971 when Group 2 rules allowed 100 unit part homologation.
The 3D model is completely done by Papag21 of Brickyard Legends Team and I have just removed too new part options, changed the eblems to 1970 correct, chaged tyres and tyre 3D models to 1970 spec 13 inch wheels and made template for the skinners.
Suspension physics has been made by gravin 3-4 years ago and rest of the physics is my own design, based on those homologation documents and information I could find about Alpina's 1600cc ETCC racers.
I am offering to do special versions for Altbierbude from these, but it is ok to me if these are not seen viable option (and as I run my own championships I know that balancing is the key for good online championship). I primarily do these for my own enjoyment and for the championship I am organizing elsewhere, so offering them here is simply just bonus.

Hi Nappe1,
thank you for your quick answer and the information given. I found only partially, what you provided - which is a benefit for me
Your effort for your mods is highly welcome and I like your contribution really (see Suedschleife!).
My "proposal" is just to be authentic in GTL with the Mods.
Regards,
dikl
P.S. Was the offset for Suedschleife successfully?

Hi,
I am bad as the other modders what comes to making stuff finished. I mean, yeah... Suedschleife has been resting for a while.
However I plan to use that track in next NoGrip Legacy HTC Season and that starts early march so it will return to workbench somewhere in near future. This season ends in next monday and I have another car which I am working to be included to championships (that will be just a variation of car that exists here already, but needs a bit balancing for the championship) but most likely after that I continue the track editing.
oh dear god there's so much I would like to make to the Süds... If there would not be deadlines to make beta releases for the races, it would not get finished ever. But now it will progress in phases as I need it get better for each race.
What comes to "Rally" or "Race Group 1" 1600 Ti / 2002 Ti, I am more than happy to incorporate it to package if someone (a lot faster modeler than me) could do the arches without extensions. I can try it by myself, but the result won't be that nice. At least not in first try. If there's modeler interested, I can share the bodystyles now available for starting point.

Getting close. biks and readme missing.
Thank you all in altbierbude testing team giving valuable feedback. Everything related to physics did have an effect in final car.
