Manual clutch 14 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi again guys,

I have used auto clutch up until now, but I'm thinking of switching to manual clutch.

Please tell me the advantages of doing this, does it change the physics of the car(give more grip/speed etc) or is the advantage just being able to slip the clutch at times?

Thanks,
Maurice.

PS, the koi are doing well Gordon, trouble is there is not so much spare cash around for folk to buy them

Driving with manual clutch is more difficult, first try it offline
You can make you start faster, because the Auto Clutch is grinting so much, but you won't have higher max. Speed or anything else.

Hi again Moz,

Yes it's better to use manual clutch as the clutch doesn't slip like it does in Auto.

Obviously this means a faster getaway especially if you do it the right way!!!!

When you are changing gear up you must remember that the engine speed is faster for the next gear so you will get a jerk as you do this so, I quickly lift off the accelerator to help match the road speed then change gear and repeat for each gear.

Changing down through the gears I blip the throttle each change to bring the engine speed up to the lower gearing which helps to stop the wheels locking if you are going too fast at the time.

It will take you around a week of good driving to get used to it and as Besier suggests, try it off line first.

It is worthwhile doing it as you can gain valuable time.

It’s a shame your Koi fish are not selling well because of the economy, but don’t forget you can always eat them rather than go hungry, he he, or sell them to a fish & chip shop.

Gee

Hi,

Just a side-note: even with auto-clutch, you can still slip the clutch.
I use auto-clutch, but I'm still able to use the clutch on standing starts or if I want to slip the clutch (which I never do...).

I also use the auto-blip option in the updater, which does more or less the same that Gordon explained about matching the revs when downshifting so that the wheels dont lock up; and auto-lift, which corresponds to the quit lift Gordon refered to when expalining how to up-shift.

EDITED: I corrected the placement of the words auto-blip and auto-lift, which were misplaced on my original text.

The automatic lift and blip is not enough, if you ride without clutch.
When upshifting in a straight line, you usually don't have to lift, when downshifting, you will have to blip, or you lock the tires - as Gordon already wrote.
The advantages are a slightly better acceleration and -when done the right way- even a slightly better braking.
I think you can gain 0,5sec without clutch, but it's more risky and demanding.

Regards
Georg
