Please help! Ok let me start from begining, I started updater after long hiatus and it said needed update so ok np I hit ok and wow it took longer than expected and by the time it was done and said have a good game I had to leave so I closed it all out. When I got back I rechecked updater it said no new files, so I launched game and multiplayer login failed with general error. After researching the issue online in forums I looked into the root file and noticed there were no lobby txt files. Long story short, updater doesn't add new ones and If I insert new ones the updater deletes them! I have tried reinstalling game and updater and even changed root path. The P2P passes test and is open and updater works as far as other files go however I'm pretty sure it's the txt or PLR files that are preventing connection. I connect fine with GTR2 and rFactor and can even play GT Legends on steam but when I try altbierbude lobby I get general error everytime.

we use our own Lobby/Lobbyserver. To join it you have to delete the lobby txt. Thats what the auoupdater does - its right. Here you can read our installation guide in englisch

Thank you for replying to my issue. Perhaps I did not explain it well enough the updater will not apply any new txt files into the folder for some reason and it will not correct the information of any txt files in the folder. Ok sorry if that confuses, if I remove any lobby txt files in the folder the updater will not add new and if I put new ones in for example from gtr2 to see if updater will correct information it removes/deletes them. I have tried many different ideas as I posted I even went as far as purchasing a new copy thru steam to see if that would fix this issue. Thank you again for any assistance you can offer.

just two ideas...

You can try within autoupdater "commands -> reinstall". This can fix some issues.

But as your problem is directly when logging to multiplayer: Did you make a new player-profile since your last login to the ABB? Or did you connect to the steam-lobby? In both cases your login-information may be wrong. If you did a reinstallation of GTL using a different online-key, this could probably cause problems, too.

Is the error whenn connecting to multiplayer or are you able to connect to lobby and the error occurs when entering a ABB-Server?

I have made new profile in game and on website. I have tried the reinstall option in the updater but it won't add the txt files. My problem is directly when logging to multiplayer on both profiles. I have two separate installs of GTL as well to prevent any confusion. I even tried to install inside and outside of the program files folder thinking it could be a write protection issue. The other install resides inside the steam folder and it will allow connection to multiplayer and I can race there but unfortunately it is a ghost town most of the time, which is the reason I would like to play on ABB. Another reason I repurchased the game through steam was in the process of trying to fix this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the game and updater my system erased my orig. key and I could not find my orig. key only the disc. I First purchased game in 2006 at release and I suspect my kids destroyed or lost the case. So I had to repurchase a digital copy.

so once again you don't need a lobby.txt file for ABB, we drive all without it !!! Delete it.

If this doesn't help : the problem "general error" on login - perhaps you clicked on sign in instead of login? General error means in most case there is a mistake with your data for login or sign in or something else.

Ah OK, I read that elsewhere in forum thanks for Confirming that bit of info. I misunderstood your previous reply. I really only presumed they where necessary files during the process of trying to figure this problem out searching and reading odd and end solutions to this sort of issue on the internet. OK so, guess I'm stuck playing on the steam servers till I can get it functioning for ABB. Hard to believe I could be the only one with this issue even my brand new copy fails to work as stand alone install it only works inside steam root it seems. Also original install used to work fine and had been installed on my PC personal/confuser for years. About 3yrs since I had played or used updater. GTL was calling my name during holidays. So thus began this goose chase.

try again this day - here are some admins who can look into the logfiles, so they can tell you if there is something wrong with your data. Post your lobbyname and they can look for it when you try to go online.

Unfortunately, I was unable to retry as you requested the other day. My lobbyname name is Wiskyeye. I will try a few times this morning. Hopefully the admins can sort this out for me and we shall be racing together soon. The Steam ver. of GTL is a lonely place.

Update on my issue, Our Super Admin.derDumeklemmer looked into it and found it was a conflict with my original key and the new one I recently purchased. Figures it would be this simple. So I registered a new profile with my original key and it worked perfect. Now I just need to get one of our Admin. to retrieve the passwords I registered on server for Wiskyeye and Wisky so I can keep those profiles. Because I have tried every known PW I may have used over the years and none of them seem to work. Needless to say I can race on the server again thanks to Admin. derDumeklemmer. Just not with my main Profile. Thank you very much, Kudos to you sir!
