The new downloader is a bit of a pain in my opinion. In theory its great but there's just so much in the way of cars/ tracks now that unless i'm missing something, you're looking at days to update from scratch.

I don't blame you at all for doing what you have, I know the cost of bandwidth but I wonder if its worth providing another option....

Have you thought about making a DVD available with everything on for say £6-7 delivered. A great way to get newbies started and very handy for anyone who needs to reinstall because of corrupted files. Hopefully it might also make some cash for you guys to reinvest!

It is possible to order a dvd with the actual update level. send a pm to one of the admins and you get a dvd, if you desire. but i dont know the costs of a dvd.

I think the Autodownloader is great and quite a flexible tool that can save hours & hours of downloading by hand with the chance of putting files in the wrong place.

When I first started on here it was all manual and what a pain that was, you really had something to complain about. When I sign in at the Bude I just look at the list on the Home page of 'Latest Cars' & 'Latest Tracks' and if there is anything new I start the downloader.

The Bude is somewhere special because it has so many cars you can use on line and any newbie having to wait until the Autodownloader finishes its work should be grateful that it is so good and time saving.

If you think you need a backup copy of all the files then make one yourself or do like I do and use an external drive for backup storage.

Long live the Autodownloader and many many thnx to Kungpfui who I think was it's creator.

i think the autoupdater works brillant. when new cars and tracks are available my downloader needs around 5-10 minutes to get p2p connection, and another 2-5 minutes for download & install, sometimes faster.

roundabout a great tool

donate for the bude and you'll get ftp access

Lol sorry chaps I think perhaps I should have thought a little before writing that...I didn't spot the FTP version!

I think you are cutting edge in the SimRacing communities with the idea of an autodownloader. It's fantastic, and there's no comparison elsewhere to the car/ track selection...you don't need to sell it to me.

What I was meaning to say was that since moving to the P2P version, although it makes sense financially its a bit of a ballache and much slower than it was previously.

If you find yourself in a position like me where your hard disk fails, or you're trying to introduce friends without FTP it will take them a long time to get up to date content wise.

A dvd would help them get the bulk, and then they can update with the handful of new additions each week via the downloader, AND this would help you get more funding..even if fairly minimal.

Anyway, not meant as a complaint, the FTP access sorts the issue to be honest.

I'm here a lot so I should contribute regardless....is there any option other than Paypal, my account's screwed!?

Cheers,

J

the auto updater is awesome. I finally noticed it uploading files from my computer to someone else's! feels good to at least contribute bandwidth. Since I have all the cars n tracks I'll make sure to have it running more often. The YeeHaw!!! server across the pond
