Hi,
I started my racing career here at Altbierbude almost 2 years ago. At first I drove couple of months non-stop races. But along with them I started to drive events from the very beginning as well. Nowadays I only drive events which I find very fair and exciting here.
My only experience of GTR² is driving events at Pilsbierbude which I began early this year. My first event there was a success - I can't remember if I was 3rd or 4th but very well for a first-timer.
But then I met the other side. The next race ended far too early. After being able to overtake some driver in a clean way after chasing him for a while and making observations he went totally mad and drove with insane speed to the side of my car at the very next curve. I found myself from the tyre wall with dead engine. No sorry or anything! Similar things happened at many races there on. Every time I sent a PM to those hotheads and got an apology together with a promise it won't happen again.
Finally I was close to quit but since no quitter I decided to be dauntless and learn to manage among them. That meant sometimes letting someone just pass you instead of struggling back. But later you could find the same guy by trackside having drifted there by his own or after having collision with some other driver - who knows and who even cares!
I have been driving the World Tour 2009 there - 9 events so far. I've been able to finish all except 2 due to a faulty memory block of my new computer. And I can't remember any major accidents having happened to me - hardly even minor ones. I have always finished in top-10, been even at podium once. So I'm tending to say that to manage there you just have to drive patient enough, take no needless risks and ease up sometimes. Same way as with GTL but with a bit greater scale.
I'm thankful to myself that I started with GTL which is still my main game since these cars are much more difficult to set up well compared to those of GTR². If you learn to set up cars of GTL well then GTR² is just "child's play" up to certain point. There you have "always" independent gear ratios, front and rear wings to produce downforce. You drive a train instead of a wild horse!
But there are other elements to make GTR² difficult and challenging:
- More speed leaves you less time to react
- With even well setup cars you have often power enough to break the tail loose if you are not careful enough.
- If you think you are already a master, try driving in rain - that might bring you back on the ground!
Things that I like with GTR²:
- Option for changing weather
- More choices with tyres to consider your pit stop strategy or even make certain qualification setup
- You are able to see the fuel amount left precise
- Ability to make a predetermined pit stop strategy
Things that I dislike with GTR²:
- Pit stops are partly AI-controlled
- Sometimes the car "dies" after "minor" crash
- You get hardly ever cut-warnings
Both games have up- and downsides but I don't see any reason to reject either. So be brave, try both and make observations of your own!
Cheers,
Timo
