Der Scirocco - Sportwagenikone der 70er

Ein langgehegter Traum findet mit diesem Release endlich seinen Abschluss: den Scirocco in all seinen vielen Facetten erlebbar zu machen. Über 3 Jahre Entwicklungszeit und tausende investierter Stunden zeigen, wie hoch unser Anspruch war, dieses Auto möglichst authentisch als Mod für GTL umzusetzen. Das Ergebnis erfüllt uns mit Stolz und Freude und wir freuen uns, den Wagen endlich mit Euch teilen zu können.

Nach seinem "holprigen" Motorsport-Debut im VW Junior Cup 1976 fand der Scirocco schnell seinen Weg in diverse Rennserien der damaligen Zeit, wo er mit deutlich besserem Erfolg eingesetzt wurde. Neben der ETCC, dem deutschen Rundstreckenpokal und diversen anderen Rennserien war der Scirocco auch in der amerikanischen Trans Am und der SCCA GT3 Meisterschaft zu finden.

Ihr werdet in diesem Mod viele herausragende Fahrzeuge aus der Rennsportgeschichte des Scirocco detailgetreu wiedergegeben finden. Darunter befinden sich Fahrzeuge aus dem VW Junior Cup, der ETCC und dem DRP als auch die außergewöhnlichen Trans Am Wagen von Milt Minter und Bill Scott sowie den 2-maligen SCAA GT3 Sieger von Tom Davey in seinem auffälligen gelb-schwarzen Design. Auch ein paar moderne Sciroccos von KWL Motorsport und dem Team Menden sind zu finden.

Es gibt viele unterschiedliche Chassis-Varianten, Cockpits, Lenkräder, Spoiler, Anbauteile und nicht zuletzt Physiken. Wir empfehlen daher, Euch möglichst alle Wagen einmal anzuschauen. Es gibt viel zu entdecken!

Ebenfalls wurden 3 verschiedene Sounds erstellt und 2 davon sind in diesem Release aktiviert. Der 3. Sound ist für die Hillclimb Sciroccos vorgesehen, die zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt veröffentlicht werden.

Der Scirocco ist in der GTC-TC-76 angesiedelt. Auch wenn er hier naturgemäß zu den langsamsten Fahrzeugen zählt (wir haben versucht, den Scirocco mit möglichst realistischer Leistung auszustatten und trotzdem konkurrenzfähig zu bleiben) macht der Fronttriebler doch sehr viel Spaß und überzeugt durch sein eigenwilliges Fahrverhalten und seine Wendigkeit. Er erfordert eine gewisse Eingewöhnungs- und Umgewöhnungszeit doch dann belohnt er mit einen mit einem einzigartigen (sehr realistischen) Fahrgefühl. Auf das Fahrmodell haben wir viel Mühe verwendet und durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Michael Schmitz (Scirocco-Pilot in der Yougtimer Trophy), der den Wagen immer wieder Probe fuhr und wertvolles Feedback gab, konnten wir das Fahrverhalten Stück für Stück seinem realen Vorbild annähern. Das vorliegende Ergebnis stimmte selbst Michael Schmitz euphorisch und daher wünschen wir Euch genausoviel Spaß beim Fahren des Scirocco wie wir beim Erstellen hatten.

Scirocco Physics Readme Deutsch

Im GTL Release des Scirocco sind 4 verschiedene Fahrphysiken enthalten.

- Seriennahe / Gruppe 1 Fahrzeuge
- Gruppe 2 ETCC Fahrzeuge
- 1976 Trans Am Fahrzeuge
- SCCA GT 3 Fahrzeuge der späten 70er

Seriennahe / Gruppe 1 Fahrzeuge:
Mitte der 70er Jahre war der Scirocco auf vielen Rennstrecken der Welt ein beliebtes Fahrzeug.
Trotz wenig Leistung und Grip ist der "kleine" Scirocco ein hervorragendes Fahrzeug für einen Markenpokal, genau wie zur damaligen Zeit.

Der Gruppe 2 ETCC Scirocco ist wahrscheinlich der bekannteste Vertreter dieses Modells. Nachdem die FIA 1976 das Gruppe 2 Reglement stark veränderte wurde der Scirocco in dieser Gruppe schnell sehr erfolgreich.
Es sind Gruppe 2 Wagen mit original 4- und 5-Gang VW Motorsport Getriebe vertreten.

1976 ließ Bill Scott 2 Sciroccos für die amerikanische Trans Am Serie aufbauen. Mit der Unterstützung von VW waren diese Autos im Grunde genommen Kopien von Gruppe 2 Autos mit einigen technischen und aerodynamischen Veränderungen.
Diese 2 Fahrzeuge besitzen eine nur leicht veränderte Gruppe 2-Physik. Sie sind jedoch genau so schnell wie ihre Gruppe 2 Pendants.

1979 nahm Tom Davey zwei bei Müller Tuning in Deutschland aufgebaute Scirocco, stattete diese mit trockensumpf-geschmierten Super V Motoren aus und gewann damit die SCCA GT3 Meisterschaft.
Diese 2 Fahrzeuge verfügen zwar über mehr Leistung - sind jedoch schwerer als die anderen.

FAHRTIPPS:

Da sowohl Lenk- und Beschleunigungskräfte bei einem Fronttriebler auf die beiden Vorderräder wirken haben diese Autos bei niedrigen Geschwindigkeiten die Tendenz zu untersteuern.
Um dieser Charakteristik in langsamen und mittelschnellen Kurven entgegenzuwirken ist es nötig, in der Kurve frühzeitig wieder Gas zu geben um die Front in Richtung Kurvenscheitel zu ziehen.
In Fahrzeugen mit Heckantrieb würde man in dieser Situation etwas Gas wegnehmen um die Hinterräder zu entlasten und das Fahrzeug zum Einlenken zu bewegen - etwas, das im Scirocco so nicht funktioniert. Dadurch würde lediglich mehr Last auf die ohnehin überlasteten Vorderräder übertragen. Versuche daher bei der Einfahrt in langsame und mittelschnelle Kurve so früh wie möglich wieder aufs Gas zu gehen und den Wagen so über die Beschleunigung in Richtung Kurvenausgang zu ziehen.
Das ist schwieriger umzusetzen als es sich zunächst anhört, denn auch wenn es einem nicht auffällt ist man mit Hecktrieblern daran gewöhnt, beim Einlenken Gas wegzunehmen. Beim Scirocco muss man sich dazu zwingen, dies nicht zu tun.
Wenn man das erst einmal verinnerlicht hat und anfängt zu spüren, wie man den Wagen mit dem Gasfuß Richtung Kurvenausgang bewegen kann dann macht das jede Menge Spaß. Zu viel Gas kann die Vorderräder jedoch zum Durchdrehen bringen und sie verlieren an Grip. Normalerweise beginnt das kurveninnere weniger belastete Vorderrad an Haftung zu verlieren und das Fahrverhalten bewegt sich wieder Richtung Untersteuern. Umso wichtiger ist es, das Gas im Grenzbereich genau zu dosieren.
Auch ein Erhöhen des Antriebsdifferential-Wertes kann helfen, das Verhalten des kurveninneren Rades in diesen Situationen zu verbessern.

In Hochgeschwindigkeits-Kurven ist die Situation aufgrund des leichten Hecks des Scirocco etwas anders. In der Kurve vom Gas zu gehen wird den Wagen zum Übersteuern bringen oder in einem Dreher enden. Auch hier hilft etwas, dass in einem Hecktriebler nur die wenigsten versuchen würden. Überraschenderweise ist es die selbe Lösung, die auch das Untersteuern in langsamen Kurven beseitigt: ein beherzter Tritt aus Gaspedal... bis zum Bodenblech.
In einem Hecktriebler und einem Auto das im Hochgeschwindigkeitsbereich leicht wird würde niemand auf die Idee kommen, den Wagen mit einem Tritt auf das Gaspedal einfangen zu wollen. Aber genau das braucht der Scirocco.
Gewicht wird auf die unbelasteten Hinterräder verlagert und der Frontantrieb zwingt das Heck wieder in die Spur. Das man dabei auch noch schneller wird, ist ein angenehmer Nebeneffekt.

Die Kurveneintrittsgeschwindigkeit kann durch die Bremsbalance sehr stark beeinflusst werden.
Hat man durch ein sehr leichtes Heck in der Kurveneinfahrt Probleme den Wagen zum Einlenken zu bewegen, hilft es etwas mehr Bremskraft auf die Hinterräder zu verteilen.
Dies gilt auch im Umkehrschluß.
Neigt der Scirocco im Kurveneingang auf der Bremse zu Drehern ist dies oft ein untrügliches Anzeichen dafür, dass auf der Hinterachse zu viel Bremskraft anliegt.

Im Stadardsetup ist der Wagen mit ein wenig Querstabilisator auf den Vorderrädern eingestellt. Hat man sich ein wenig daran gewöhnt, das Übersteuern bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten mit dem Gasfuss zu kontrollieren, kann der Querstabi vorn auf 0 zurück gestellt werden. Dies verbessert das Einlenkverhalten bei niedrigen Geschwindigkeiten. Auf langsamen Kursen sollte der vordere Querstabi generell auf 0 gestellt werden.
Auf Kursen mit hohen Geschwindigkeiten kann man etwas mehr Frontstabi einstellen falls einem der Wagen etwas zu "lose" erscheint.

Beim Scirocco dreht sich alles um die Front. Was auch immer der Vorderwagen macht - ob gut oder schlecht - das Heck wird dem folgen.
Auch wenn das Heck etwas treibt, das einem nicht gefällt so ist doch der Vorderwagen immer der Schlüssel dazu, dieses Verhalten unter Kontrolle zu bringen. Der Denkansatz ist also ein etwas anderer wenn man einen Fronttriebler fährt.
Für mich ist das zu einem sehr viel Spaß machenden Erlebnis geworden.

"vorhandene Dateien überschreiben" mit ja bestätigen, es gehen keine Original-Daten verloren.

Bei Problemen oder manueller Installation der einzelnen Ordner müssen diese Pfade eingehalten werden:

der Ordner "VW Scirocco Mk1" in /GTL/GameData/Teams/GTC-TC-76
der Ordner "Scirocco-MkI_SA" in /GTL/GameData/Sounds/Cars

Für durch die Installation entstandene Schäden übernehmen wir keine Haftung.

Die Dateien dürfen ohne ausdrückliche Zustimmung aller am Projekt beteiligten Urheber nicht verändert,
konvertiert oder weiter verwendet werden. Dies gilt insbesondere für die von Ducfreak erstellten Sounds!
Einer Konvertierung stehen wir grundsätzlich nicht abgeneigt gegenüber, jedoch werden wir darauf achten,
dass der Qualität der Mod Rechnung getragen wird. Eine GTR2-Version des Scirocco ist bereits in Arbeit.

The Scirocco - Iconic Sportscar of the 70s

A long-kept dream has now become reality: to let you experience the Scirocco in all its glory. More than 3 years of development and thousands of hours invested may illustrate, how high our aims were to bring this car to GT Legends in the most authentic way. The outcome makes us proud and we are happy to finally be able to share this with you, the community.

After its 'disastrous' motorsports debut with the VW Junior Cup in 1976 the Scirocco quickly made its way into a variety of touring car championships of that decade with greater success. Other than the ETCC and various other german and european championships the Scirocco played a role in the Trans Am and the SCCA GT3 Championship in America.

In this mod you will find many significant cars from the Sciroccos motorsport history down to the smallest detail. Cars from the VW Junior Cup, from the ETCC and DRP as well as the remarkable cars of Bill Scott and Milt Minter from the Trans Am series and the 2-times SCCA GT3 champion Tom Davey with his eye-catching black and yellow Scirocco. The line up is completed by some modern Sciroccos of KWL Motorsport and Team Menden.

There are a lot of different chassis-styles, cockpits, steering wheels, spoilers, add-on parts and last but not least different physics. We recommend that you have a look at all of the cars. There is a lot to discover.

The mod also comes with 3 different sounds, 2 of them are active in this build. The third sound is reserved for the Hillclimb machines that will be released at a later date.

We have placed the Scirocco in the GTC-TC-76. Being one of the slowest cars in this class (we tried to fit the Scirocco with as much as possible realistic power and match the smaller cars of the class) this FWD car is a lot of fun to drive and will put your driving skills to a test. It will require some time to getting used to it but then you will enjoy a unique (and realistic) driving experience. We have put a lot of effort into that driving model and thanks to our collaboration with Michael Schmitz who is a Scirocco driver irl in the german Youngtimer Trophy who acted as a testdriver and provided us with invaluable feedback we think were able to come very close to the original car.

Now all we have to say is: have as much fun driving the car as we had while making this.

Club car:
It seemed in the mid 70s most places that raced cars, had some sort of Scirocco cup racing .
Not a lot of power or grip it is a good car to race as a single make, just like it was in real life.

The Group 2 ETCC car is perhaps the most famous. Becoming very successful in the new division 2 class after the FIA changed all of the group 2 rules in 1976.
Not surprisingly it is the most represented car in the mod.
More power, grip, and making some down force in the front with a real spoiler. If driven well it is able to put up a good fight with some of the bigger Div-3 and 4 ETCC cars that have been done for GTL.

There are both 4 and 5 speed Group-2 cars included.

In 1975 Bill Scott had 2 Scirocco’s built for the Trans Am series. With support from VW they were basically copies of Group-2 cars with different body work
These 2 cars are also here with very slightly different physics from the Div-2 cars and just as fast.

In 1979 Tom Davey took 2 Div-2 Scirocco chassis built by Muller racing in Germany, installed dry sump supervee engines in them and won the SCCA GT3 championship.
These 2 cars are also here with more power and weight then the other 2.

Driving Notes:

Because all of the turning and accelerating is done by the same 2 front tires, at low speeds the tendency of a FWD cars is to under steer.
In low and medium speed corners to solve this roll back in to the throttle early through the mid corner to keep pulling the front end down to the apex.
In a rear wheel drive car at low speed you might lift of the throttle in this situation to unload the rear tires and get the car to rotate but that will not work well in the sirocco. You will only transfer more weight to the already over loaded front tires. As you enter low and mid speed corners try to be back on the power very early to keep the front end pulling down to the apex of the corner.
This is harder to do than it sounds because even if you don’t notice it you have been lifting to rotate rear drive cars all the time and you need to think about not doing it.
Once you start to get it right and can feel the front of the car “drive” down to the apex it’s a lot of fun.
Too much throttle and you might spin the front tires causing them to loose grip usually causing the inside unloaded tire to spin and the car will go back to under steer, you need to balance the power right at the edge of grip.
Adding power diff lock can also help here if the inside tire refuses to stay hooked up.

In a high speed corner the situation is somewhat different because of the light rear end lifting off the power mid corner at high speed will cause the car to over steer or spin. Here again we need to do something that would not work in a rear wheel drive car. Surprisingly it’s the same thing that fixed the under steer in the low speed corner, get back on the throttle… Hard.
In a rear wheel drive in a high speed loose situation you would rarely go right to full power to save it but this is what you need to do in the Rocco.
It transfers weight to the rear to reload the unloaded tires and the front end pulls the rear back in to line. Also you go faster and that is a good thing.

Corner entry rotation can be hugely effected by the front to rear brake percentage.
Because of the light rear if you are having trouble getting the car to rotate on corer entry adding rear brake will help.
The opposite is of course also true.
If the Scirocco wants to spin on corner entry while on the brakes this is almost always an indication of too much rear brake.

The defalt set up has a small amount of front sway bar in it. As you get used to using power to control the high speed over steer setting the front bar to 0 will help the car turn in better in low speed corners, and should almost always be set to 0 on slow tracks.
Adding some front bar can help on high speed tracks if the car feels a bit to loose for your liking.

Everything is about the front of the car, what ever you can make the front do the rear will follow along good or bad.
Even if the back of the car is doing something you don’t like you need to control it with the front of the car. It is a little different way of thinking when you are driving.
I have found it to be a very fun experience
